Miss Dorothy Galbreath
Miss Dorothy Ann
Galbreath, age 69, of the
Sharpespur Community
died on Friday January 15,
2021, at Meadows Health
in Vidalia after an extended
illness.
Miss Galbreath was a
lifelong resident of Mont
gomery County and at
tended Montgomery
County schools. She was
Baptist by faith. She was
preceded in death by her
father, George Wilson Gal
breath; her grandparents,
Alma Lu Farmer Maddox
and Homer Lee Maddox;
2 brothers, Billy Frank
lin Galbreath and Gary
Lee Galbreath; 2 uncles,
Eugene Maddox and J.C.
Maddox; and 1 sister-in-
law, Judy Galbreath.
Survivors include her
mother, Low Rita Mad
dox Galbreath; 4 siblings,
John Edward “Buddy” Gal

Mr. Bo Payton
Mr. Bo Payton, age 68,
died on Wednesday, January
13, 2021, at Fairview Park
Hospital after an extended
illness.
Mr. Payton was bom
in Kibbee. He was a United
States Navy veteran. In 1982
he began his
career with
Friendly Gus,
working his
way to Vice
President of
Operations.
He was preceded in death by
his parents, Walter Payton
and Lizzie Blaxton Odom.
Survivors include his
wife, Deborah Payton of

Mrs. Virginia Hughes
Poole, age 72, died on
Monday, January 11, 2021,
at Meadows Regional
Medical Center in Vidalia.
Mrs. Poole was born
in Baxley and moved to
Central Florida in the early
1960s. She moved to Sop-
erton in the early 1970s.
She assisted her husband
as the Bookkeeper for his
business, Soperton Tile
Company, and worked at
First National Bank in Vi
dalia for a short time be
fore joining and retiring
from The Bank of Soper
ton. She worked with J &
J Wrecker Service. She was
a member of the Holton
Chapel Advent Christian
Church. She was preceded
in death by her parents, Er
nest and Willie Ina Decker
Hughes; 2 siblings, Regis
ter Hughes and Vertie Mae
Hughes; and 1 stepson, Jer
emy Poole.
Survivors include her
husband, Jerry Poole, Sop
erton; 1 son, Eddie No
bles (Regina), Soperton;
1 daughter, Nancy Sohn
(Danny), Dublin; 5 grand
children, Amber Richard
son (Derek), Hayli Castro

Mr. Carl Sharpe
Mr. Carl R. Sharpe,
age 86, of Lyons, died on
Friday, January 15, 2021,
at his home after a brief ill
ness.
Mr. Sharpe was a native
of Toombs County and was
a 1950 graduate of Vidalia
High School. He began
his career with the Geor
gia Department of Trans
portation
in 1950,
served 2
years in the
U.S. Army
Combat
Engineers, returned to
the GDOT, and retired in
1984 as civil engineer. He
worked for 25 years with
the Toombs County Tax
Assessor’s Office. He was
a member and Elder of
Grace Community Presby
terian Church in Lyons. He
was preceded in death by 1
son, Shannon Sharpe; his
parents, Leroy Sharpe and
Marie Lewis Sharpe; and
4 siblings, Helen Sharpe
Dykes, Louella Sharpe
Spears, Vera Sharpe Dykes,
and Robert Leroy Sharpe.
Survivors include
his wife, Frances Savage
Sharpe, and 1 son, Sandy
Sharpe and wife Ebony,
all of Lyons; 1 sister, Betty

Mrs. Deborah Betsill
Mrs. Deborah Rhodes
Betsill, age 66, of Vidalia,
died suddenly on Satur
day, January 16, 2021. She
was born in Anderson,
South Carolina, and lived
in Elijah and Blue Ridge
for several years. She lived
in the Atlanta area for sev
eral years before moving
to Vidalia in 1975. She was
a homemaker and was an
active member of Sacred
Heart Catholic Church in
Vidalia. Debbie had a ser
vant’s heart, with her focus
on her family and the el
derly. She was preceded in
death by her parents, Wil
liam H. Rhodes and Fran
ces Duvall Rhodes.
Survivors include
her husband of forty-five
years, Joe Betsill; four chil
dren, Zack Betsill and wife
Amanda, Gabe Betsill and
wife Heather, all of Vidalia,
Matt Betsill and wife Shel
ley of Guyton, and Nick
Betsill of Swartz Creek,
Michigan; one sister, Di
anne Chapman and hus
band Jerry of Gainesville,
Georgia; seven grandchil
dren, Aubrey Betsill, Gab
by Betsill, Thomas Betsill,
Bella Betsill, Ian Betsill,
Lincoln Betsill and Lon
don Betsill; and two nieces.

evening at 7:00 at the fu
neral home.

died on Friday, January 15,

al Medical

illness.

County. He was a retired
machinist for Gulf Stream
Aerospace in Savannah.
He served in the National
Guard and was Baptist by
Faith. He was preceded in
death by his parents, Jack
and Louise Faircloth; and 1
brother, Edward Faircloth.

of Vidalia; 1 sister, Delories
(Dewitt) Powell of Mount

Ms. Shirley Jean Ta-
pley Beasley was born in
Montgomery County and
later moved to Vidalia
where she lived and died.
She attended Kibbee High
School and later went on to
work at Hazlehurst Manu
facturing Company for
20 years. She then went
to Captain’s Comer, Sea-
winder and finished her
career at Pineland Mental
Health Facility, where she
retired. She was preceded
in death by her parents,
Blount and Ethel Tapley;
her former spouse, John
Morgan Beasley, Sr.; and 1
brother, M.C. Tapley.
Survivors include 4
sisters, Elizabeth Warnock

kes (Jerry), Jerry Whita
ker, and June Mosley; and

Mrs. Mary Ellen Mills
Tapley, age 85, of Vidalia,
died on January 15, 2021,
in Meadows Health in Vi
dalia after an extended ill
ness.
Mrs. Tapley was born
in Montgomery County
and was a 1953 graduate of
Kibbee High School. She
was employed with Oxford
Industries for 34 years be
fore going to work in their
family business in 1985.
She worked alongside her
husband, son and daugh-
ter-in-law in the finance
business for 30 years. She
was a member of Trinity
Baptist Church in Vidalia.
She was preceded in death
by her mother, Nettie
Mills.
Survivors include her
husband of 67 years, B.T.
Tapley, and 1 son, Gary Ta
pley and wife Sharon, all of
Vidalia; 1 grandson, Brad
Tapley and wife Kelli, and
and 2 great-grandchildren,
Tenley and Briggs Tapley,

Mr. Michael Thigpen
Mr. Michael McAfee
Thigpen, age 92, of Rock-
ledge, died on January 16,
2021, at Dublin Place after
a brief illness.
Mr. Thigpen was born
in Rockledge. He was a
lifetime member of Rock-
ledge United
Methodist
Church. He
served in the
U.S. Navy for
4 years and
after comple
tion of his recruitment, he
served in the U.S. Army
for 3 years. He moved to
Rockledge, FL, where he
owned and operated a
trucking business for many
years. During the Vietnam
War, he went to Vietnam
and worked as a private
contractor. Upon retire
ment in 1990, he returned
to Rockledge, GA. He was
preceded in death by his
parents, Neva and Marvin
Thigpen; and brothers and
sister-in-law, William Jack
Thigpen (Inez) and Robert
Earl Thigpen.
Survivors include 1
sister, Mary Alice Pope
(Ben); 1 sister-in-law,
Fay Woods Thigpen; 6
nieces, Tullie Yarbrough
(Charles), Bonnie Pope,
Terri Walden (Larry), Bob
