Indians Play 4 Opponents

were ready to play from the
start of the game with the
score being 16-6,” stated
Crusader Head Coach,
Adam Callaway
CCA made a run in the
second quarter to tie the
score to 20 points, but
RTCA then kicked it in
gear and went on a 16-5
run, making the score 36-
25 at the half.
RTCA then started the
third quarter on a 12-point
run to pull away and never
looked back.

The Toombs County
High School wrestling
team competed in the
GHSA State AA Dual
Championship last week
end in Barnsville. The
Bulldogs had a good show
ing at the tournament but
into the games. I was also
very happy with our senior
leadership and how they
handled the game through
out the night. Now it’s time
to get back in the gym and
go back to work”

Boys vs. FPCA
The Crusaders de
feated the Highlanders 68-
35, which is a big win for
the Crusaders as they go
2-1 in the Region.
“We came out really
flat to start the game and it
was sloppy, but the boys
responded well in the sec
ond and third quarters. Ju
nior Tyler Buggs was a big
lost both of their matches.
TCHS vs. Oglethorpe
Toombs first match of
the tournament was
against Oglethorpe
County. Toombs got a few
wins in the match, but
came up short 50-27.
TCHS vs. Banks
That loss put Toombs
against Banks County in
their next match and the
part of the win on Saturday
with 13 points, 13 re
bounds, and 7 blocks.
We’ve got to work on com
ing out fast and not flat to
start games, especially
since we’re getting closer to
playoffs; however, I know
these boys will dig down
deep and make it happen,”
said Coach Callaway.
Top scorers for this
game were McBride with
20 points, Buggs with 13
points, and Walker with 12
points.
The Lady Crusaders
are 4-11 on the year while
the boys are now 15-2.
This week RTCA's
boys hosted Memorial Day
in a Region matchup on
Tuesday after presstime.
They will be back in action
on Friday with FPCA com
ing to town with games
starting at 6:00 p.m.
Bulldogs made it a close
one, but came up just
short. Toombs fell 39-36.
Up next for the Bull
dog wrestlers will be the
individual part of the sea
son as they will host the
Region Traditional this
Friday and Saturday with
matches starting at 4:00
p.m. on Friday.

The Indians basketball
teams of Vidalia High
School had a busy week
last week as they took on
four opponents. On Mon
day they hosted the Raid
ers of Bacon County, were
at rival Toombs County on
Tuesday, traveled to Bacon
County in Alma on Friday
and then hosted East Lau
rens on Saturday. The Lady
Indians split their games
while the boys went 3-4.
Girls vs. Bacon
Bacon took an early
6-2 lead over VHS in the
girls game, but the Indians
tied the game at 6-6. They
continued to work the
Raiders and in the third
period were on top 26-18.
VHS led 47-29 in the
fourth and took the win
55-33.
Boys vs. Bacon
It was a close game be
tween VHS and Bacon, but
the Indians pulled it out.
VHS led early 4-2, and it
was tied at 8-8 later in the
first. In the second it was a
15-12 lead for the Indians,
but again Bacon tied the
game at 15-15. The Raid
ers took a 23-20 lead in the
third, but VHS fought back
and went back on top 26-
25.
In the fourth VHS was
up and held on to win the
game 47-42.
Girls vs. Toombs
The Lady Bulldogs got
the big Region and rivalry
win over Vidalia on Tues
day of last week. Toombs
jumped out to an 18-8 lead
over the Lady Indians and
led 37-23 in the second pe
riod of the game.
TCHS pulled away
and won the game 66-47
over VHS.
Boys vs. Toombs
VHS held a 15-5 lead
at the end of the first pe
riod, and pushed that lead
to 33-9 by the end of the
first half of the game.
In the third period the
Bulldogs finally got a bit of
offense going, but they still
trailed 50-25 heading to
the fourth. VHS took the
win, 69-36.
Girls vs. Bacon
It was another win for
the Lady Indians over Ba
con County as they went
to Alma on Friday. In this
game the Lady Indians got
the win over Bacon 44-31.
Boys vs. Bacon
In this matchup the
Raiders got revenge from
early in the week. It was
another close game, but
Bacon pulled out a one-
point win. The Indians
were up 5-0 early in the
game and led 13-12 in the
second period. Bacon tied
the game at 17-17 and be
fore the end of the half
VHS hit a 3 A court shot to
lead 20-17 at halftime.
In the second half of
the game, though, the
Raiders kept fighting and
pulled out a 39-38 win
over VHS in a low scoring
game.
Girls vs. E. Laurens
On Saturday the Lady
Indians fell to the Lady Fal
cons in the Region game.
The Falcons won 50-35
over VHS. They led 15-8
in the first and were up 18-
14 in the second. VHS
kept it close at 20-16, but
by the third were trailing
36-22.
East Laurens won, 50-
35.
Boys vs. E. Laurens
The VHS boys
bounced back from their
close loss to Bacon and
rolled to a win over the
Falcons. VHS took the Re
gion victory, 76-48 to im
prove their Region record.
The Lady Indians are
8-9 overall and are 4-5 in
the Region while the boys
are 11-6 and 5-4 in Region
play. This week VHS will
play Jeff Davis at home on
Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.,
and will wrap up the regu
lar season on Friday at
Swainsboro at 6:00 p.m.

The Wheeler County
High School boys basketball
team played three games last
week winning two of those
contests. The girls program
was off and will be back in
action after dealing with
COVID protocals.
Boys vs. Dublin
The boys had a rough
second period against the
Irish as Dublin got the Re
gion win. Dublin was up 21-
15 at the end of the first, but
in the second they outscored
the Bulldogs 26-5 as they
took a 47-20 halftime lead.
In the third Dublin ex
tended that lead to 64-31,
and the Irish won the game
78-43.

back-of-the-hand treatment.
Yet, if you sat down with
all the head coaches of the
league’s 32 teams, it is likely
that you would hear them
say that defense usually wins
games.
Some insiders are
changing their tune on that
point, however, allowing
that offenses, such as Kan
sas City’s, are sometimes
just too hard to stop. If Sun
day’s game comes down to
a shootout, most observers
are siding with the Kansas
City Chiefs where the youth
and athleticism of Patrick
Mahomes are expected to
give his team the advantage
over the aging Tom Brady
and the upstart Tampa Bay
Bucs.
The game of football
has gone the way of the mo
bile quarterback. Give the
Chiefs the advantage in that
matchup. If you survey the
opinion of the forecasters,
they are almost unanimous
in favoring the Chiefs in
this ultimate contest but are
expecting a close game. The
difference they all say has to
do with Mahomes.
He is faster, more mo
bile and quicker than an
aging Brady who has had a
remarkable career. At 43 he
