Mrs. Lois Collins
Mrs. Lois Hutcheson
Collins, age 81, ofHiggston,
died Saturday, February 13,
2021, at Meadows Health
in Vidalia after a sudden
illness. She was a native of
Reidsville, living there until
moving to Vidalia in 1959
with her late husband, be
fore moving to Higgston in
1964. Early in her life, Lois
worked with Oxford Indus
tries, later with Suburban
Printing, worked in medical
records at Meadows Health,
and with the family busi
nesses, Witt & Collins and
Collins Glass and Trim for
fifty years. She was a charter
member of the First Assem
bly of God in Vidalia and
she and her husband served
many years in the children’s
ministry. She enjoyed cook
ing, sewing, flowers, and
a large flock of porcelain
roosters. She is preceded
in death by her husband,
Lamar Collins, and par
ents, Algerine and Mamie
Hutcheson.
Survivors include four
children, Randy Collins
and wife Missy of Alamo,
Kevin Collins and wife
Diane of the Blue Ridge
Community, Keith Collins
and wife Sharon of Vida
lia, and Dan Warren and
wife Donna of Hampton;
grandchildren, Will Collins
and wife Madison, Drew
Collins, Maranda Collins
Ellis and husband Jordan,
Mallary Collins Wickstrom
and husband Chris, Colby
Collins and wife Janna, Syd-
ni Collins Perry and hus
band Kaleb, Allie Collins
and fiance Brandon Hel
ton; great-grandchildren,
Ryleigh Ellis, Braysen Ellis,
Makenzie Ellis, Gracelynn

Collins; one brother, Jimmy

The funeral service was
Tuesday, February 16, at
3:00 p.m., at the First As
sembly of God, with Rev
erend Donnie Daniels and
Pastor Joe Gabbard officiat
ing. Burial followed in the
McCrimmon Cemetery
near Higgston.

Mr. Phillip Crosby
Mr. Phillip Crosby, age
60, of the Toombs Central
Community, died on Fri
day, February 12, 2021, at
his home after an extended
illness.
Mr. Crosby was a 1978
graduate of Toombs Cen
tral High School. He and
his wife owned several
businesses over the years.
Most recently, he was a
ranger for the Georgia
Forestry Commission, and
he and Gail owned Kid’s
Place Daycare Center. He
was also co-owner of the
Whale’s Tail Restaurant in
Toombs Central. He was
a member of the former
Toombs Stone Brothers
Motorcycle Club. He was
a member of Rocky Creek
Baptist Church. He was
preceded in death by his
parents, John Dewey “Ju
nior” Crosby, Jr., and Ag
nes Drury Crosby; 1 sister,
Rhonda Crosby Temples;
and 2 brothers, Johnny
Crosby and Craig Crosby.
Survivors include his
wife of 41 years, Gail Wil
kes Crosby; 3 children,
Kelly Bell and husband
Keith of Cedar Cross

Mr. Fred Brogdon
Mr. Frederick Wade
“Fred” Brogdon, age 79,
of Lyons, Georgia, died
Wednesday, February 10,
at home after an extended
illness. He was a native of
Toombs County, where
he lived most of his life.
He was a 1959 graduate
of Lyons High School.
He earned a Bachelor’s
degree in history from
Georgia Southern Col
lege and went on to obtain
his Master’s degree from
Florida State University.
He was a professor of his
tory at Georgia Southern
from 1965 until his retire
ment in 1998. Many of
those years he served as
Assistant Head of the his
tory department. Because
teaching history was his
passion, after retirement
he became adjunct faculty
for Brewton-Parker Col
lege and East Georgia Col
lege. Many days and week
ends of his retirement were
spent organizing and lead
ing historical field trips for
various groups in our area.
Mr. Brogdon was a
member of the Georgia
Retired Teachers Asso
ciation, serving locally as
a former president of the
Toombs County Retired
Educators Association.
Local members benefited
from numerous historical
field trips he planned for
their group.
Most people will re
member Mr. Brogdon for
his whole-hearted dedica
tion to Georgia Southern
Athletics. Saturdays were
spent tail-gating at Paulson
Stadium or on the road fol
lowing the Eagles WHER
EVER they played. He was
also just as much a fan for
his grandchildren’s sports
teams. You could find him
at their games dressed in
Toombs County, Robert
Toombs or, yes, even Vida
lia colors.
Fred worked with his
friend and fellow historian,
Roger G. Branch, to com
pile a collection of essays
written by T. Ross Sharpe,
and they published it
into a book that they co
authored entitled T. Ross
Sharpe’s Tales of the Alta-
maha.
Fred had a vision of a
local museum that featured
artifacts and information
from the development and
history of life along the Al-
tamaha River in our area.
He worked tirelessly to or
ganize a local group, gather
information and turn a
building into what is now
the Altamaha Heritage
Museum located in down
town Lyons. This project
spurred him to develop
a series of annual “River
Road Tours” that were a
historical highlight of our
community.
Fred served for many
years as the chairman of
the Toombs County Dem
ocratic Party. He was a
member of the Lyons First
United Methodist Church,
where he researched and
wrote about its history and
served as church historian.
He was a member of the
John Durst Sunday School
class and was on the rota
tion as a regular teacher.
He also loved and wrote
about the history of his
mother’s family’s church,
Union Methodist Church
in Statesboro.
Mr. Brogdon is pre
ceded in death by his wife,
the love of his life, Jean
Phillips Brogdon, and his
parents, Eugene Russell
Brogdon and Sara Lou
Hodges Brogdon. Survi
vors include one brother,
Gene Brogdon (Diane)
of Dawsonville; one sis
ter, Linda Brogdon Lewis
(Keith) of Buford; three
children, Beth NeSmith
(Willis), Laura Toole
(Danny), and Frederick
Wade Brogdon, Jr. (Mel
ody), all of Lyons; He
had seven grandchildren,

Mr. Berry Edge

Mr. Berry Nolan Edge,
age 71, of Dublin, died on
Saturday, February 6,2021.
Mr. Edge was born in
Dublin, grew up in Soper-
ton until the family moved
to Macon in 1954. He was
a 1969 graduate of Will
ingham High School
Macon. He
served in the
U.S. Army
in Vietnam.
He worked
for Grum
man Aerospace, which
eventually was owned by
Triumph Aerospace and
retired as a senior tool and
die maker in 2010. He lived
at Lake Sinclair until he
moved to Dublin in 2011.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Enmon and
Maryjo Logan Edge, and 1
daughter, Christina Edge.
Survivors include his
wife of 35 years, Marga
ret Martin Edge, Dublin;
3 children, Lisa Moxley
(Greg), Girard, Michelle

Mr. William B. “Bud”
Hart, age 83, of Uvalda,
died on Saturday, Febru
ary 13, 2021, in Meadows
Health in Vidalia after an
extended illness.
Mr. Hart was a native
of the Providence Com
munity, a 1955 graduate
of Toombs Central School
and moved near Uvalda in
Toombs County in 1970.
He was a lifelong farmer,
owner of W.B. Hart Farms,
and was one of the first
growers of the Vidalia on
ion. He was a member of
the Uvalda Baptist Church
and attended Cedar Cross
ing Baptist Church. He
served on the Altamaha
EMC Board of Directors
for many years and current
ly was Director Emeritus.
He got his pilot’s license in
the late 1960’s, and he flew
for many years. He was pre
ceded in death by his par
ents, Dennis Dorsey Hart
and Johnnie Ruth Walker
Hart.
Survivors include his
wife of 64 years, Yvonne
Morris Hart of Uvalda;

Mrs. Hines was born in
Atlanta. She was a home
maker.
Survivors include her
husband of 59 years, Leroy
Hines, Riverdale; 1 daugh
ter, Leona Hines, SC; 1
son, Lee Hines (Regina),
Riverdale; 1 sister, Moni;
7 grandchildren; 5 great
