The Brewton-Parker
College (BPC) Baron’s
Bass Fishing team (coed)
continues to climb the
ranks to one of the highest-
ranked teams in the coun
try. The BPC Bass Fishing
team is currently ranked
twelfth in the nation and
number one in the state of
Georgia. Bass Fishing does
not have divisions, so the
anglers compete with
schools all over the coun
try such as the University
of Georgia, University of
Tennessee, and Auburn
University. The Bass Fish
ing team is still fairly new
as they go into their fourth
season this coming fall.
According to angler
Caleb Barrow, Junior from
Augusta, GA, “As a team,
we plan to keep growing in
our knowledge of the
world of bass fishing and
continue to work together.
We will continue to com
pete in as many tourna
ments possible as we work
our way to the top.”
Teams are made up of
two anglers (fishermen/
fisherwomen) per boat
with as many as five teams
from BPC competing in a
tournament. Some tourna
ments can have over 200
boats out on the reservoirs
at one time. The BPC team
has traveled as far north as
New York and as far west
as Colorado. The tourna
ments typically last around
seven hours and points are
scored on the top five fish
an angler catches. At the
end of the tournament, the
fish are weighed. Points
are deducted for dead fish,
so anglers must keep the
fish alive.
Coach Stephen Birch-
field, Brewton-Parker
Class of 2016, describes
In State
the sport as more fast-
paced than one would
imagine. Teams continu
ously move from one loca
tion to the next to catch
the largest bass. To better
understand the sport,
teams must study bass be
havior such as weather
conditions, water clarity,
currents, structures (trees,
rocks, obstructions, etc.)
seasonal trends, and the
diet of the fish. The an
glers use different lures
and sometimes different
poles based on the various
conditions and techniques.
Coach Birchfield com
mended his team’s accom
plishments by stating, “I
am proud of the family at
mosphere this sport has
created with both past and
current anglers. They learn
from each other and chal
lenge each other daily. As
the expression states, iron
sharpens iron. I truly can
say we are pretty sharp!”

Christian Academy's base
ball season came to an end
last Friday as they took on
the Gators of Gatewood
School on the road in Ea-
tonton. The Crusaders fell
in two games, losing both
by the run rule.
Game 1
In the top of the first
inning with Hayden Kite
on base, a single by Rob
Moore put runners at the
corners. But a ground out
ended the RTCA threat.
In the bottom of the first
inning Gatewood picked
up the first run of the
game, and then on a single
up the middle the Gators
went ahead 3-0. They
added one more run on a
hit into left field for a 4-0
lead.

The Eagles baseball
team of Montgomery
County High School fell in
the second round of the
GHSA State A Playoffs last
week to the Tigers of Met-
ter. MCHS fell in two
games.
Game 1
In Game 1 things
started out a bit slow for
both teams as neither team
could get a run across over
their lead to 6-0 on a 2
RBI single in the top of
the second inning. They
added another run on a
hit into right and by the
end of the inning it was a
7- 0 lead for the Gators.
RTCA did put two
runners on base in the top
of the third inning, and a
hit by Dawson Pinkard
loaded the bases for the
Crusaders, but there were
two outs. A strikeout
ended the RTCA chance.
In the bottom of the
fourth inning the Gators
loaded the bases, and a hit
batter put them up 8-0 on
RTCA. RTCA did only al
low the one run, but it was
8- 0 heading to the top of
the fifth inning.
Gatewood scored two
more runs in the bottom
of the fifth inning as they
took the win, 10-0 by the
run rule.
Game 2
In the second game a
the first three innings of
the game. In the fourth in
ning Metter got on the
board as they plated two
runs to take the lead over
the Eagles.
The Tigers then added
four more runs in the fifth
inning to extend their lead
to 6-0. Metter held in the
final two inning to take the
win by that score.
Game 2
In the second game of
the best-of-three series the
Tigers scored two runs in
the top of the first inning
lead off hit, a stolen base
and an error brought in
the first run of the game
for the Gators in the top
of the first inning. They
added two more on a hit
into left field for a 3-0
lead. The Gators added
another run on an error
for a 4-0 lead. They made
it 5-0 on a hit to right and
then a 2 RBI hit to the
fence made it 7-0 heading
to the bottom of the first
inning.
In the bottom of the
inning Pinkard did get a
hit, but that was all for
RTCA. RTCA did manage
a run in the bottom of the
third inning to make it
8-1, but in the top of the
fourth the Gators ex
tended their lead to 15-1
as they scored seven more
times. Gatewood went on
to win the game 17-1 over
RTCA to end the Crusad
ers season.
to take the early lead. They
added five runs in the third
inning and two more in the
fourth to push that lead to
9-0 over the Eagles.
In the top of the fifth
inning the Tigers exploded
for 11 runs as they jumped
out to a 20-0 lead over
MCHS. The Eagles could
not score in the bottom of
the inning and that gave
the Tigers the 20-0 win in
five innings.
MCHS ended their
season with a record of 15-
13 overall.
