Jasmine Smith of Vi-
dalia High School signed
her letter of intent on
Monday of this week to be
a part of the Brewton-
Parker College track &
field team. Smith was a
thrower for the Indians
and holds the school re
cord in both the shot put
and the discus.
Smith was the Region
Champion in both the shot
put and discus, won Sec
tionals in discus and was
3rd in shot put, and was
6th in discus and 8th in
shot put at the State Meet.
Smith will be taking those
talents over to BPC as she
continues her career and
gets her education.
Smith said, “I think
this is a great opportunity
for me, and I'm very thank
ful to be getting this schol
arship. I look forward to
furthering my career in
track, and continuing to
get better. I also want to be
a nurse and they just are
getting their program go
ing so I think that is a great
chance to be a part of that
new program. I want to
thank my family for all
they have done, and of
course all of the coaches,
teachers, and my team
mates.”
Here father James Jer
mon stated, “We feel amaz
ing. To see all the hard
work that she has put in
and to get this chance is
just great. Her mom has
pushed her and has always
been her greatest fan. We
are so thankful for every
one at VHS and for those
at Brewton-Parker.”
Coach Mandy God-
bee added, “I am so proud
of her. I know Jasmine has
been the foundation of our
team. She has always done
what she has needed to,
been where she needed to
be, and has helped this
team so much. She led in
all of our fundraisers, set
school records, won Re
gion, I could't have asked
for anything more.”

VHS Wins All-Sports Title
For the 7th time in
the last 8 years, Vidalia
High School has been
awarded the Region
2AA All-Sports Cham
pionship Trophy. Win
ning the Championship
Trophy that many times
is an accomplishment
on its own, but winning
the award this year holds
a special place among
the Vidalia Athletes,
Coaches, and Staff. For
the first time in the
award's history, the tro
phy now bears the name
of Vidalia's longtime late
Athletic Director and
Head Girls Basketball
Coach, Chunk Reid.
"This award is truly
a representation of the
work our coaches and
athletes put in all year.
To be able to win the
inaugural Chunk Reid
Championship Trophy
makes it even a little
more special, especially
during what we had to
go through this year,"
said Vidalia Athletic Di
rector Tommy Dailey.
"COVID protocols
and shutdowns were
definitely obstacles that
we had to overcome.
Still, it is a testament to
our coaches pulling to
gether and working
through the adversity in
order to place their
teams in a position to be
successful," added Dai
ley.
Vidalia teams were
able to win 10 of the 20
Region Championships
in Region 2AA, and Dai
ley says that is a stan
dard that reaches far and
wide. "Our athletes and
the parents of our ath
letes put a lot of faith
into how we were doing
things, which enabled us
to push them to reach
their potential and that
inevitably made our ath
letic programs success
ful."
