COMMENTARY

CONTEXT
A compilation of quotations on a variety of
issues by national, state and regional writers,
well-known personalities, just plain everyday
people and from various publications
collected by the editors of THE ADVANCE.
Quotes for our Times:
Vince Coyner, journalist for American
Thinker: What if proof of 2020 presidential
election fraud develops?.
If it's possible to steal the presidency with
impunity, what office in the nation is beyond
reach? The simple answer is none, and that
matters because the government has police
power and once the Constitution becomes
superfluous, the coercive powers of govern
ment suddenly have no limits. And for those
who say that the Constitution still stands, the
Constitution is nothing more than a piece of
paper. It is the citizens' loyalty to that Constitu
tion and the system built upon it that make it
work.
Leah Barkoukis, online features editor at
Townhall.com: Biden walks away from infra
structure talks with Capito.
"Despite the progress we made in our
negotiations, the president continued to re
spond with offers that included tax increases
as his pay for, instead of several practical
options that would have not been harmful
to individuals, families, and small businesses,"
(Sen. Shelley Moore Capito) said in a state
ment. "While I appreciate President Biden's
willingness to devote so much time and ef
fort to these negotiations, he ultimately chose
not to accept the very robust and targeted
infrastructure package, and instead, end our
discussions."
Matt Vespa, Senior Editor at Townhall.com:
Liberal writer: 'Anyone who flies an American
flag on a pickup truck is a...different breed of
white people'.
Look, I may be biased because I have
white parents, but what is this crap? I'll keep
asking it. I know it's nothing new. The Left
seems to have two obsessions. Donald Trump
and white people. The latter of which they
find new ways to manufacture false narra
tives in their minds to keep them perpetually
miserable. Countless Americans drive pick-up
trucks. Are we back to these snobby, elitist hot
takes from the coastal and urban elites? I saw
a Black man driving a pick-up truck last week.
Is he a neo-Nazi? It just goes to the heart of
the matter which is that the Democratic Party
and progressive America, in general, do not
get rural America. And because they don't
get it—they hate it. They hate these people.
Period. What's so wrong with flying the Ameri
can flag? What's wrong with patriotism? This is
why the Left is mocked constantly. This is why
these people are killjoys at the parties. Who
would want to speak with someone who is in
constant misery about being.. .an American?
Justin Haskins, director of the Stopping So
cialism Project and a research fellow at The
Heartland Institute, a free-market think tank:
Failing upward: How Biden’s bloated budget
could cause an economic collapse.
The U.S. economy does not need more
debt, higher deficits or larger government
programs. It needs the Biden administration to
restore fiscal sanity by reducing government
debt to responsible levels and to limit burden
some taxes and rules so that businesses can
grow and Americans can get back to work.
Unfortunately, that's not likely to occur.
Americans everywhere should plan accord
ingly.

The Smear Campaign
AgainstJoe Manchin
Joe Manchin is being
pilloried for the offense of
being consistent on the
filibuster.
Back in 2017, when Senate
Democrats were desperate to
stop Donald Trump’s agenda,
33 of them, including Manchin,
signed a bipartisan letter
backing the filibuster in ringing
terms.
“We are mindful of the
unique role the Senate plays in
the legislative process,” they
wrote, “and we are steadfastly
committed to ensuring that this
great American institution
continues to serve as the world’s
greatest deliberative body”
Well, the commitment of
almost all the Democrats was
not quite as steadfast as
advertised.
Now that the filibuster is an
obstacle to passing Joe Biden’s
agenda, the longstanding
Senate procedure has been
deemed a threat to our system
of government and to racial
justice that only a naif or cynic
can support.
And that means you, Joe
Manchin.
The West Virginia senator
has been badgered for months
by reporters eager to get him to
change his mind on the
filibuster, or at least show some
flexibility. Now, the pressure
campaign from within his own
party has ratcheted up to
include over-the-top insults
that have an air of desperation
about them.
After Manchin reiterated
his support for the filibuster
and made clear his opposition
to HR1, a sweeping Democratic
voting bill, in an op-ed that
weekend, progressive House
Democratic Mondaire Jones
from New York unloaded on
Twitter. Per Jones, the headline
of Manchin’s piece might as
well have been, “Why I’ll vote
to preserve Jim Crow.”
This is a preposterous
smear, and a transparent
attempt to bludgeon Manchin
into submission by defining his
sincere attachment to Senate
tradition and belief in
bipartisanship as tantamount to
racism.
Another New York member
of the House, Jamaal Bowman,
said on CNN, “Joe Manchin
has become the new Mitch
McConnell.”
The comparison might
make sense if Mitch McConnell
had voted with Joe Biden 100%
of the time so far, and had
supported the Affordable Care
Act and voted twice to impeach
President Donald Trump.
Despite the abuse, Manchin
is onto something. The current
situation illustrates the purpose
of the filibuster nicely — it is a
guardrail keeping a very slender
Senate majority that could
easily be wiped out by January
2023 from enacting a far-
reaching radical agenda in a fit
of partisan passion.
Democrats aren’t mad
because they know that support
for their agenda will build over
time — they are mad because
they know that it won’t, and
absent Manchin and other
recalcitrant Senate Democrats
getting on board right away,
they will miss their tiny window
to get their way through brute
legislative force prior to losing
one or both chambers of
Congress.
They have convinced
themselves that GOP state
legislatures are destroying
democracy with new voting
laws rolling back pandemic-
driven innovations and
tightening up security, a fevered
myth that also won’t stand the
test of time.
As for HR1, it is a
constitutionally dubious
monstrosity that would trample
on state voting laws in an
enormous step toward the
federalization of American
elections. Manchin was right to
say in his op-ed that it is telling
that not one Republican,

The State of
Black America
Listening to all
the rhetoric in the
popular media, you
would think America
is the most unfair,
racist nation in the
world. You would
think that Black
Americans are
uniformly living in
oppression and
poverty, with no hope for the future, save
the federal government arriving on the
scene to their rescue.
Sorry, liberals, to trouble you with facts.
But indeed there are facts. And the facts tell
a far different story than what we are
hearing.
Let’s start with the most recent annual
report of the Census Bureau: Income and
Poverty in the United States: 2019.
According to this report, annual real
median household income in the U.S.
increased 6.8% in 2019, the largest annual
increase recorded by the Census Bureau
going back to 1967.
Black median household income in
2019 increased 7.9%, the largest on record
and, per American Enterprise Institute
economist Mark Perry, “almost nine times
the average annual increase of 0.90% over
the last half-century.”
Moreover, in 2019, 29.4% of Black
households had income of $75,000 or more,
compared with 28.7% of Black households
that had income of $25,000 or less. This was
the first time, ever, that the percentage of
high-income Black households exceeded
the percentage of low-income Black
households.
In 1967, 44.5% of Black households
were low-income, compared with 9.1%
high-income.
Last September, the Federal Reserve
published its Survey of Consumer Finances,
published once every three years. The
survey covers the three-year period 2016-
2019, just prior to the onset of the pandemic.

“I Keep Forgetting
That Fm The
President. ”
By Kevin McCullough
No one knows who is in charge.
Have you noticed?
The President of Mexico, our
literal neighbor, decided a woman
who ended her elective career at 0%
when she dropped out of the
presidential primary in 2020
deserved the title “President” simply
because of the “success” of a single
meeting.
President Lopez Obrador said
such a thing after a specific meeting
regarding the illegal immigration
crisis. He did so after VP Harris had
been fingered by President Biden to
oversee the border mess. She’s now
been in charge of it for 82 days and
has not only made zero progress but
has refused to even go to the border
even once.
In the fine print on her meeting
with the Mexican President you see
why he was so pleased with the
meeting.
She gave away our money—
about $130 million to be exact—to
enlist Mexico’s enthusiasm to help
shut down the mad rush to the USA.
Our money, the money we work
hard for, just a blown kiss for the Vice
President to waste because she has
no leverage.
In exchange Lopez Obrador
proudly called her “President”
Harris.
God help us.
He’s not the only one though,
our own President has done the
same. We lost track of how many
times Joe Biden referred to her like
that down the stretch of the
campaign.
Is it any surprise that just last
week when addressing the troops the
man who shows increasing signs of
early stages of dementia told the
gathered units that he “keeps
forgetting that he’s President?”
Nothing inspires service, loyalty,
and confidence like being completely
incapacitated at the job. (Side note:
he didn’t say he forgot this one time,
but that he KEEPS forgetting.)
How does one do that? Does
anyone think that Donald Trump
was ever confused or forgetful about
being the President every day he was
in office? Did Obama, Bush, Clinton?
Kennedy, Roosevelt, Lincoln?
He lives in the White House, he
travels with Secret Service
everywhere he goes in cars,
helicopters and planes that don’t
belong to him. If he’s not consciously
reminded of his presidency
everywhere he turns—what would it
take for him to remember?
The people certainly seem to
wonder who the President truly is.
Safety net moderates from Scranton
didn’t cast their vote for Biden
because they thought one of his first
priorities would be the elimination of
women’s sports by forcing men into
their competitions.
But that’s what they got!
Is it Dr. Susan Rice worm-
tonguing her way into the feeble
mind of Biden that is truly calling the
shots? Has the ghost of Obama
