for House District 156
is set for Tuesday,
July 13. Early voting is
scheduled through July
9, Monday through
Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5
p.m. at the Toombs and
Montgomery County
Board of Elections
offices. No voting on
July 5. On Election Day
July 13, voting will be
held at the county
precincts 7 a.m. to 7
p.m.

The renovation of the
Ohoopee Regional Library Sys
tem’s Vidalia branch has moved
a significant step closer to the
funding goal with a $250,000
donation for the naming of the
new facility that will undergo
ground breaking in December of
this year.
The local branch will be
known as the Dr. Mark and
Tonya Spivey Public Library
when the new facility is com
pleted and labeled with the
name within the next year. The
building will incorporate the
Ladson Genealogical Library
currently housed in a downtown

Church Street location, onto the
property of the current library at
610 Jackson Street.
Dr. Spivey, who founded
the Spivey Orthopedic Clinic
in Vidalia in 2005, shared the

Construction on Target for Fall 2022

well and plans are to open the new facility in Fall 2022,

Despite some early,
unexpected delays, con
struction is now on tar
get for a Fall 2022 open
ing of Wheeler County’s
new school, as originally
planned.
The $36 million,
167, 264-square-foot fa
cility, being built with a
state grant of $30,482,60
and proceeds from a spe
cial local option sales tax,
will house pre-kindergar
ten through 12th grades.

of Education about prog
ress on the new school at
the Board’s regular ses
sion on June 14.
Heavy spring rains
that temporarily halted
site preparation, as well
as an encounter with an
old foundation which
had to be removed, de
layed progress in the first
few weeks of construc
tion at the new school
site, but as of last week,
crews were solidly back
on schedule with the
