Interestingly, consult
ing work is how Kent’s re
lationship with Meadows
began. At the time, in the
1990s, he owned a con
sulting company. “My own
consulting engagement led
me to Meadows to do some
project work. When there
was a leadership transition
opportunity at Meadows at
the end of 1999,1 got a call.”
He met with leaders on the
hospital’s board of directors,
which led to a short engage
ment as interim CEO.
Kent started his interim
job at Meadows on January
1, 2000, famously known as
Y2K, or the day many ex
pected computer systems
everywhere to be affected
by the millennial shift. “We
spent the night in the hos
pital just in case something
happened with the com
puter systems. It didn’t.
Mainly, we bought pizza for
all of the nurses and stayed
up late,” he recalled. His
role as interim director was
extended, and when the
hospital began its search for
a permanent CEO, he was
considered a candidate. Ul
timately, he was offered the
job and stepped into that
role in the Spring of2000. “I
expected to be here for two
to four years,” he observed.

as history attests, the fit was
a good one for both Kent

When Kent joined
Meadows, the community

Ms. Magnolia^
Letters have been edited for length and clarity.
Dear Ms. Magnolia,
My fiance and / are getting married
this summer. We are having a very small
event with a guest list that includes im
mediate family and only a few of our
closest friends. We are allowing one
guest or “plus one" for each of our
single friends.
One of our close friends has a boy
friend that has some bad history with
my family, and / don ’t want any inci
dents at my wedding. Is there a way to
ask this friend not to invite this person?
E
Dear E,
I’m afraid not. Wedding etiquette
is very specific. “And guest” means
just that. You may want to only in
clude “plus-ones” in a serious ro
mantic relationship, but you can
hardly ask if they are really serious,
can you? But if all single guests at
this very small wedding are invited to
include a “plus one,” then this single
guest should be no exception.
Welcome to marriage and ex
tended family events where you can’t
always control who shows up at get-
togethers.
If you have a question for Ms. Magnolia, please mail it to P.O. Box 669, Vidalia, GA
30475, or e-mail to msmagnoliaadvance@yahoo.com.
