Mrs. Beverly Nichols
Mrs. Beverly Matthews
Nichols, age 86, ofVidalia,
died on Thursday, June 17,
2021, at home after a brief
illness.
Mrs. Nichols was a
native of Toombs County
and graduated from Vida-
lia High School in 1952.
She attended St. Joseph’s
School of Nursing in At
lanta, where she met her
future husband, Clayton
Smith “Nicky” Nichols.
In 1990, they moved from
Port Charlotte, FL, to Vi-
dalia. She was a member
of The Episcopal Church
of the Annunciation ofVi
dalia and a past member
of Ailey Garden Club. She
was preceded in death by
her husband, Nicky Nich
ols; her grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Lewis Cle
ments, Sr.; her mother,
Vera Clements; her father,
Lewis Matthews; 1 son,
Robert Clayton Nichols; 1
grandson, Ian Kulenguski;
and 1 granddaughter, Ce
rise Nichols.
Survivors include 2
daughters, Beverly Gay
Nichols of Charlottesville,

Mrs. Joan Lord Jack-
son Hall, age 75, ofVidalia,
died on Tuesday, July 6,
2021, at Meadows Region
al Hospital in Vidalia.
Mrs. Hall was born in
Jenkins County and grew
up in Treutlen County. In
the 1960s, she worked at
Roydonwear. She worked
at the Treutlen Health and
Rehabilitation Center as a
CNA and retired in 2012.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, William
Robert “ W.R.”, “Dick” Lord
and Robbie Lee Rigdon
Lord; 2 siblings, Gail Mon
roe and Robert “Danny”
Ruis; 1 son, Jimmy Randall
Jackson; 1 daughter, Te
resa Carolyn Jackson; and
1 granddaughter, Bridgette
Vessell.
Survivors include 1

11:00 a.m., in Westview
Cemetery, with Rev. Mil-
ton Thomas officiating.

Mr. Edison Thigpen
Mr. Edison Thigpen,
age 87, of the Orianna
Community of Soper
ton, died on Sunday, July
4, 2021, at Fairview Park
Hospital in Dublin.
Mr. Thigpen was born
in Treutlen County. He
moved to Florida in the
mid 1950s, and returned
to Treutlen County in
1960. He worked in the
citrus processing industry
in Winter Haven and Bra
denton, FL. He worked for
a short time at the Fires
tone Store in Soperton. In
the early 1960s, he started
a 40-year career with Built
Well Homes, which be
came Adrian Homes, and
retired as a supervisor in
2005. He was a longtime
member of Orianna Bap
tist Church, where he
served as a Deacon. He was
preceded in death by his
parents, Bernie R. and Vera
McLendon Thigpen; 3
siblings, Frances Thigpen,
Hazel Sweat, and Bernie
“Junior” Thigpen Jr.; and 1
son-in-law, Rufus Mixon.
Survivors include his
wife of 69 years, Carolyn
E. Thigpen, Soperton; 1
son, Billy Thigpen (Sarah),
Luling, LA; 1 daughter,
Deborah Mixon, Cochran;
2 sisters, Joyce Hayes and
Louise Logan, both of Sop
erton; 3 grandchildren,
Blaine Thigpen (Kristyn),
Wesley Thigpen (Holly),
and Dawn Phillips (Mike);
3 great-grandchildren,

eron Cantrell, age 83, of
East Dublin, died Thurs
day, July 8, 2021, at Sham
rock Assisted Living Cen
ter.
Mrs. Cantrell was born
in Laurens County, grew
up in Dublin and attend
ed Wilkes High School.
She was an evangelist and
minister for over 50 years,
preaching in the Holiness
Church, at revivals, and
camp meetings, primar
ily in North Georgia. In
2017 she returned to the
Laurens County area and
resided at Scott Assisted
Living, Southland Health
Care and most recently at
Shamrock Assisted Living,
where she continued her
ministry by preaching to
and sharing her faith with
her fellow residents. She
was a lifelong member of
the Holiness faith and most
recently attended Dublin
Church of God. She was
preceded in death by her
parents, Ottis and Moz-
zell Johnson Townsend;
her husband, Ronnie
Cantrell; and 3 brothers,
Osbert Townsend, Wal
ter Townsend and her
twin brother, James A.
Townsend.
Survivors include
2 sons, William “Mark”
Rogers, East Dublin, and
Larry Mitchell Rogers

home.
Ms. McCullars was

School and Southeastern
Technical College in pur
suit of a Nursing degree.
She moved to Tarrytown
in 2010. She worked at
the J.P. Stevens Woolen
Mill for a short time be
fore joining the Dairy
Queen in Dublin that she
managed for 15 years. She
then worked at Shamrock
Bowling Center in Dublin,
where she was the manager
of the concession stand
and bar and was a member
of the Wednesday morn
ing Coffee League. She was
a member of Clearview
Baptist Church in East
Dublin. She was preceded
in death by her parents,
William Larkin Simons,
Sr., and Grady Mae Walker
Simons; 1 daughter, Nora
Suzanne “Susie” McCul
lars; 1 brother, William
Larkin “Larkie” Simons, Jr.;
1 nephew, William Larkin

Mrs. Davis was born
and raised in Montgomery
County, attended Mont
gomery County High
School, and graduated
from Georgia Southern
University. She was pre
ceded in death by her hus
band, Johnny Davis; her
father, Herschel O’Brien;
her mother, Hazel Tillman
O’Brien; and her sister,
Kathleen (Kathy) Davis.

Mr. Ernest A. Collins,
USAFR, age 93, of Ly
ons, died on Friday, July 9,
2021, at Memorial Health
in Savannah after a brief
illness.
Mr. Collins was a na
tive of Toombs County
and lived there until he en
tered the Army Air Corp
in 1945. He
was a Radio
Communica
tions Special
ist, a veteran
of World War
II, Korean War, and Viet
nam. During his military
career, he was stationed
around the world, includ
ing Iceland, Finland, Ger
many, Holland, England,
Italy, and Turkey, and re
tired in 1971 after 26 years
of service. Soon after his
retirement, he returned to
Lyons and worked at Fed
eral Pacific and the Geor
gia Forestry Commission,
and was a volunteer with
the New Branch Fire De
partment. He was a mem
ber of Fairview Baptist
Church for more than 28
years and was a former
member of Hammond
Baptist Church of Lyons.
While at Fairview, he
served as deacon, member
of Bible Fellowship, Se
nior Saints, and was part
of several other groups in
the church. He was Door
Greeter for Sunday and
Wednesday services. He
took over the role of send
ing get well and sympathy
cards from the church after
his wife passed away. He
was preceded in death by
his wife, Betty Treadwell
Collins; his parents, El-
zie Collins and Josie Col
lins; and 5 siblings, Lillian
Shaw, J.D. Collins, Mary
Frances Wright, Elton
Collins, and Richard Col
lins.
Survivors include 1
daughter, Linda Collins
Ricks and former husband
Keith, and 1 grandson,
Ryan K. Ricks, all of Sop

and lived in Santa Claus
since 2005. She worked at
the Dairy Queen in Vida
lia for many years before
retiring. She was preceded
in death by her parents,
Charlton T. and Dora Cal
laway Cox.

husband of over 50 years,
Forris E. Humphrey; all of
her biological siblings; and
several nieces and neph
ews.
