The Treutlen County
High School Vikings foot
ball team opened up their
season last Friday night at
home against Lanier
County's Bulldogs.
Treutlen dropped the
opener 39-13.
Treutlen showed
some good things on their
first drive of the game, but
an interception in Lanier
territory ended the drive
and turned the ball over to
the Bulldogs. Lanier then
drove down the field and
scored to take a 7-0 lead.
Treutlen bounced
back on their next posses
sion and put a touchdown
on the board. They moved
to the 6-yard line on a 45-
yard run by Jordan Coney,
and then Coney punched
it in from there for the
touchdown. Treutlen
missed the extra point and
trailed 7-6 nearing the
end of the first quarter.
Lanier wasted know
time in extending their
lead with a 55-yard run for
a score. Treutlen's Tim
Blair blocked the extra
point, but the score was
13-6. They quickly added
another touchdown on an
interception return for a
touchdown on the first
play of the Vikings' next
series. That pushed the
lead to 20-6.
The Bulldogs added
one more touchdown be
fore the end of the first
half on a 16-yard pass.
That gave Lanier a 26-6
halftime lead after Blair
again blocked the PAT.
Lanier added a 60-
yard run for a touchdown
early in the third quarter
to lead 33-6. They put one
more on the board with
just 30 seconds left in the
third to take a 39-6 lead to
the fourth quarter.
The Vikings did have
a solid drive in the fourth.
They came up with a de
fensive stop at their own
8-yard line, and then
drove down the field, cap
ping it off with a 45-yard
pass from Coney to Blair
with just 8 seconds left on
the clock. Harrison Ruth
erford hit the PAT to
make the final score 39-
13.
The Vikings will have
this week off, and then
will take on rival Mont
gomery County on Sep
tember 3, in Mt. Vernon at
7:30 p.m.
more in the second with
Wheeler getting on the
board with one run in
the bottom of the frame.
But Hawkinsville led 4-1.
Neither team scored
over the next two in
nings, but in the top of
the fifth the Devils plated
one more run, and then
put two more on the
board in the sixth inning
to push their lead to 7-1.
Wheeler did score one
more in the bottom of
the sixth inning, but
Hawkinsville answered
with one more in the top
of the seventh inning on
the way to an 8-2 win.
vs. Dublin
On Thursday the
Bulldogs took care of the
Lady Irish in Dublin in a
Region win. Wheeler
rolled to an 11-1 win
over Dublin as they
bounced back from the
loss to Hawkinsville.
This week Wheeler
was scheduled to face
Telfair County on Tues
day at home after press
time. They will be back
on the diamond on
Thursday at 5:00 p.m. in
Rochelle as they face
Wilcox County.

The Montgomery
County High School
softball team
played just
one
game
last week
as they took
on Telfair
County on
Thursday in McRae.
The Eagles lost the game
by the run-rule in four
innings.
Telfair jumped out
with four runs in the bot
tom of the first inning
and then added four
more in the second to
push
their lead
to 8-0. The Trojans
plated another three
runs in the third inning
and then one more in the
fourth to cap off the vic
tory, 12-0. It was a no
hitter for the Telfair
pitcher, Erin Harrelson.
This week
