Obituaries
Mr. Johnny Jones
Mr. Johnny F. Jones,
age 68, of the Sharpespur
Community, died Tues
day, September 7, 2021,
at Charlie Norwood VA
Hospital in Augusta,
Georgia, after an extended
illness. He was a native
of Lyons, Georgia, and
lived most of his life in
the Toombs-Montgomery
Counties area.
Mr. Jones was a 1970
graduate of Toombs Cen
tral School, where he was
voted Most Dependable.
He attended Abraham
Baldwin Agricultural Col
lege and earned a degree
in Agricultural Mechan
ics. During his high school
and collegiate years he
was active in Future Farm
ers of America and earned
numerous awards, includ
ing the prestigious Ameri
can Farmer Degree. He
served four years in the
Georgia Na
tional Guard.
He also
served five
years in the
United States
Navy, working as a ma
chinist’s mate aboard the
USS Yosemite and the
USS Saratoga, where he
operated engine room
number two. After be
ing honorably discharged
from the Navy, he worked
as a mechanic for various
businesses before opening
Johnny’s Repair Service
in 1983. He and his wife
owned, operated, and
raised their children there
for thirty-five years until
his retirement in 2019.
He served as the Charter
President of the Toombs
County FFA Alumni
chapter; served in several
positions on the Georgia
FFA Alumni Council, in
cluding president; and as
the Southeast Representa
tive for the National FFA
Alumni Council, where he
was awarded the Honor
ary American Degree. He
also served on the board
of Toombs County Farm
Bureau, served a term on
the Toombs-Montgomery
Chamber of Commerce
Board of Directors, was
a Georgia Agri-Leader,
where he had the honor
of placing a wreath at the
Tomb of the Unknown
Soldier, and was chosen as
Lyons Citizen of the Year
in 2009. He was a mem
ber of Fairview Baptist
Church in Lyons, Lyons
Masonic Lodge #49, and
the Quint Shrine Club.
Following his retirement,
he served on the board of
His Works Ministries. He
enjoyed cooking at vari
ous church functions; be
ing “Santa Claus”; giving
out wheat pennies, pep
permint, and peanuts; and
spending time with his
grandchildren.
Mr. Jones is preceded
in death by his parents,
RW. Jones, Jr., and Vera
Hadden Jones; one sister,
Virginia “Jenny” Jones
Bailey; and one brother,
William “Bill” Jones.
Mr. Jones is survived
by his wife of 38 years,
Mona Crabb Jones of the
Sharpespur Communi
ty; children Sarah Jones
Humphries and husband
Jon of Chelsea, Alabama,
Jessica V. Jones, John
Jones, Jerry and Christy
Hudson, Ken and Whit
ney Connell, all of the
Sharpespur Community,

was Saturday, September
11, at 11:00 a.m., in the
chapel of Ronald V. Hall
Funeral Home, with Rev
erend Glenn E. Russell of
ficiating. Burial followed
at Pinecrest Cemetery
with Military Honors and
Masonic Rites.
Pallbearers were

Mr. Ellis Howell
Mr. Ellis Howell, USA-
R, 87, of Higgston, died
on Tuesday, September 7,
2021, at the Community
Hospice House in Vidalia
after an extended illness.
Mr. Howell was a native
of the Center Community,
attended Center School,
and was a 1952 graduate
of Vidalia High School. He
had a brief career with the
Georgia DOT. In 1954, he
enlisted in the U.S. Army,
serving two
tours of duty
in Vietnam,
earning sev
eral medals
and awards.
He retired in
1974 as a First Sergeant.
Soon after his military ser
vice, he resumed a career as
a pipefitter. Upon retiring,
he worked with the Service
Center. He was a member
and deacon of the First
Assembly of God, serving
in various roles, including
superintendent, church
board of directors, and
Sunday school teacher. He
was preceded in death by
his parents, James Thomas
Howell, Sr., and Stella Mc
Nair Howell; his stepmoth
er, Erline Taylor Howell; 2
sisters, Eulene Westberry
and Joy Fay Wood; and 2
brothers, James Howell, Jr.,
and John Howell.
His family includes his
wife of 63 years, Sandra
Helms Howell of Higgs

Ms. Jennifer Joyner
Ms. Jennifer Joyner,
age 49 of Soperton, passed
away on Friday, Septem
ber 3, 2021, at Meadows
Regional Medical Center,
Vidalia following her battle
with COVID.
She was bom on
March 6, 1972, in Dublin,
GA to James Elton Joyner
and Kathy Ward Joyner.
She was a veteran LPN of
26 years, a true example of
servanthood, she lovingly
cared for the elderly and
their families. In addition,
she was a proud supporter
of the United States Mili
tary, and loved her coun
try. If they didn’t make her
mad, she was a huge Geor
gia Bulldog fan. She loved
to read and watch Hall
mark movies in her spare
time. She is greatly loved
and is already missed. She
was preceded in death by
her paternal grandparents,
Felton and Myrtle Joyner;
and her maternal grandfa
ther, Thomas Ward.
Ms. Joyner is survived
by her parents, James Elton
“Jimmy” Joyner and Kathy
Ward Joyner; her step
father, John Fulford; her
stepmother, Diana Spivey;
her two daughters, Alexan
dria (Joyner) Herrin and
her husband, David, and
Caitlin Kitchens; her four
grandchildren, Noah Her
rin, Bryson Benton, Ty
Benton, and Ashalun Ben
ton.
The family received

September 8, 2021, from

Mr. Jerry Bailey, age
67, of Vidalia, died on
Tuesday, September 7,
2021, after a sudden illness.
Mr. Bailey was a na
tive of Toombs County
and a 1972 graduate of
Vidalia High School. He
earned a Bachelor’s degree
from University of Geor
gia with a double major in
Marketing and Biology. He
worked with his parents
at Bailey’s Department
Store in Vidalia and later
started a career in nuclear
power where he traveled
and worked in nuclear
power plants throughout
the northeast and midwest
United States. He retired
and moved back to Vidalia
in 2020. He was preceded
in death by his grandson,
Austin Lane McLendon;
his parents, Herman Bailey
and Goldie Davidson Bai
ley; and his father-in-law,
Harry F. Brown.
His family includes his
wife, Bonnie L. Bailey of
Vidalia; 2 children, Leslie
Bailey McLendon and hus
band Donald of Lyons, and
Michael “Zade” Bailey and
wife Mary Ann of Vidalia;
and 4 grandchildren, Daw

Mrs. Sharon Baker
Bledsoe, age 65, ofVidalia,
died on Sunday, Septem
ber 5, 2021, at Memorial
Health Meadows Hospital
in Vidalia after an extended
illness.
Mrs. Bledsoe was a na
tive of Nashville, IN, mov
ing to Lakeland, FL, in the
late 1960’s, later moving to
Bartow, FL, and graduating
from high school there in
1973. She earned an Asso
ciate degree in Marketing
Management from Tampa
College. She was a certified
medical assistant, and was
Pentecostal by faith. She
was preceded in death by 1
daughter, Martha Michelle
Baker; her parents, Martin
Clayton Baker and Mar
tha Irene Lucas Baker; and
3 siblings, Bonnie Smith,
Dean Baker, and Roger
Baker.
Her family includes
her husband of 46 years,
Steve C. Bledsoe, Vidalia; 3

Mr. Wyman Lee Smith,
age 55, of the Kite Com
munity, died on Wednes
day, September 8, 2021, at
Fairview Park Hospital in
Dublin.
Mr. Smith was born in
Green Cove
Springs, FL,
grew up in
Orange Park,
FL, and Kite,
and was a
1984 graduate of John
son County High School.
He served for 4 years in
the United States Navy.
Upon being honorably
discharged, he returned
to Johnson County, where
he lived, except for a few
years in Soperton. He was
a handyman.He was pre
ceded in death by his par
ents, Edward Lee Smith
and Reba Ireatha Moore
Smith, and 2 sisters, Rebec
ca Lynn Lawson and Betty
Olive Hodges.
Survivors include 2
brothers, James Edward
Smith (Sherri), East Dub
lin, and Dallas Franklin
Smith, Soperton; his best
