The Toombs
County High School Bull
dogs baseball team took on
the Pirates of Applling
County last week in a three-
game Region series. The Pi
rates are the top team in Re
gion 3AA at the moment,
but the Bulldogs played
them well and picked up a
win in the second game of
the week.
Game 1
On Tuesday the
Toombs County Bulldogs
made the 30 minute trip
south to Baxley to take on
the Appling County Pirates
in game one of a critical Re
gion series.
Appling County got on
the board in the first inning
when a Pirate singled on a
2-2 count, scoring two runs.
They added another run in
the third inning to push the
lead to 3-0. The Dawgs bat
tled back in the fourth in
ning, however, to tie the
game at 3-3. Unfortunately,
in the bottom half of the in
ning, the Bulldogs gave up 6
runs to fall behind 9-3 and
did not catch back up, losing
the game 9-5.
Gavin Hall took the loss
for Toombs. The pitcher al
lowed two hits and nine
runs over three and a third
innings, striking out three.
Tucker Braddy came in re
lief and pitched 2 and 2/3
inning giving up one hit and
zero runs. The freshmen
pitcher struck out 2 pirates
in his work.
Jesus Quintero was the
guy at the plate for the Bull
dogs going 2-for-3 to lead
the Dawgs in hits. As a team,
the Bulldogs outhit the Pi
rates in the game, seven hits
to three hits.
Game 2
On Thursday, the
Toombs County Bulldog
Baseball team seized a vic
tory in dramatic walk-off
fashion, to defeat the Ap
pling County Pirates in the
bottom of the 12th inning.
In the bottom half of
the 12th, Trayvone Harris
led off with a single. This
was followed by a double by
Brantley Upshaw. Appling
County then intentionally
walked Wil Watts. This
brought up Jesus Quintero,
who hit a hard ground ball
that resulted in a throwing
error by the Pirates pitcher
that scored Harris to give
the Bulldogs the victory.
The pitching was strong
on both sides. Toombs
County struck out five,
while Appling County
pitchers sat down nine.
The Bulldogs captured
the lead in the third inning
when Dawson Brantley hit
his first solo home run of the
year. The Pirates evened
things up at two in the top of
the seventh inning when
Mason Williamson singled
on a 1-0 count, scoring one
run.
Tucker Braddy took the
win for Toombs. The right
hander went four and two-
thirds innings, allowing zero
runs on one hit. Lucas
O’Conner started the game
for the Dawgs and pitched
well. The pitcher lasted
seven and a third innings,
allowing six hits and two
runs while striking out five.
Toombs tallied seven
hits on the day with Dawson
Brantley and Trayvone Har
ris each having multiple hits
for the Dawgs.
Game 3
On Friday afternoon,
the Toombs County Bull
dog Baseball team fell be
hind early and couldn’t
come back in a 9-0 loss to
Appling County. This loss
put the Bulldogs region re
cord at 4-2.
In the game, the Pirates
took the lead early on an er
ror in the second inning and
never looked back. The
Bulldogs collected seven
hits on the night but not
scratch a run. Wil Watts and
Trayvone Harris both man
aged multiple hits for the
Dawgs. Harris and Watts
each collected two hits to
lead the team.
Harris took the loss for
Toombs County. The righty
surrendered four runs on
two hits over three innings,
striking out four.
This week the Bulldogs
have an off Region week.
They took on Jeff Davis on
Monday and Tuesday after
presstime. They face Eman
uel County Institute on
Wednesday of this week at
5:3 0 p.m. in Twin City. They
will get back to Region play

Christian Academy began
its tennis season on March
7. The team this year has a
total of 18 players, six of
those players being se

Coaches Glen
Birkheimer and Haley
Glenn said that they have a
very young team this year,
but those new players are
all eager to learn and have
shown improvements in
each match that they have
played. They are also ex
cited that with the number
of players that they have,
they are able to have full
teams for both boys and
girls.
The RTCA tennis
teams have already com

year and have two more to
go in the regular season
with the Region Tourna
