Lyons Main Street
has been designated as an
Accredited Main Street
America program for meet
ing rigorous performance
standards.
Each year, Main Street
America and its partners
announce the list of Ac
credited programs to rec
ognize their exceptional
commitment to preserva
tion-based economic de
velopment and community
revitalization through the
Main Street Approach.
“We are very proud
to acknowledge this year’s
862 Accredited Main
Street America programs,
and their steadfast dedica
tion to nurture economi
cally and culturally vibrant
downtown districts,” said
Hannah White, Interim
President & CEO of Main
Street America. “The in
crease in the size and im
pact of our network speaks
volumes to the power of
the Main Street movement
to respond to the needs
of local communities and
drive innovative solutions.”
In 2022, Main Street
America programs gener
ated $6.2 billion in local
reinvestment, helped open
7,657 net new businesses,
facilitated the creation of
29,174 net new jobs, cata
lyzed the rehabilitation of
10,688 historic buildings,
and leveraged 1,528,535
volunteer hours. On aver
age, for every dollar that a
Main Street program spent
to support their operations,
it generated $24.07 of new
investment back into their
downtown communities.
Collectively, 2 mil
lion people live or work
within the boundaries of
designated Main Street
America districts. An es
timated workforce of 1.1
million people contribute
their skills and expertise to
advancing the missions of
these historic downtowns
and commercial corridors.
Lyons Main Street’s
performance is annually
evaluated by Georgia Main
Street, which works in part
nership with Main Street
America to identify the
local programs that meet
rigorous national perfor
mance standards. To qual
ify for Accreditation status,
communities must meet a
set of rigorous standards
that include commitments
to building grassroots revi
talization programs, foster
ing strong public-private
partnerships, nurturing
economic opportunity for
small businesses and en
trepreneurs, and actively
preserving historic places,
spaces, and cultural assets.
Last year, Lyons Main
Street opened 304 Society
Garden, a downtown park,
and rehabilitated a city
owned building to be uti
lized as the Altamaha Cul
tural Museum, Welcome
Center, and Lyons Main
Street office. This year,
Lyons Main Street will be
deeding land over to the
City of Lyons to be devel
oped into a parking lot.
“We’re always excited
when new businesses open
downtown. It not only cre
ates jobs but attracts visi
tors to our area and builds
on the success of our com
munity,” says Lyons Main
Street Executive Direc
tor Daphne Walker. “Our
downtown continues to
thrive due to the com
mitment of our property
owners, business owners,
city government, and com
munity. The City of Lyons
Development Authority
has been reenacted and we
look forward to working
with them to help further
success of local businesses.
Lyons plays an important
role in our community’s
long-term quality of life.”
Lyons Main Street is
devoted to developing and
