The Vidalia High School Indians
softball team took on Emanuel County
Institute and Brantley County last
week. VHS fell to ECI on Monday but
they bounced back with a Region win
over Brantley on Tuesday. They then
got a win over Pierce County on
Wednesday to wrap up the regular sea
son.
vs. ECI
ECI got on the board first with two
runs in the bottom of the first inning.
ECI added two more in the second in
ning to take a 4-0 lead over VHS.
Vidalia got on the board in the top
of the fourth inning with three runs to
close the lead to 4-3, but ECI answered
in the bottom of the frame with five
more runs to push their lead to 9-3.
Vidalia closed it to 9-6 in the top of
the fifth inning, but two more from ECI
made it 11-6 heading to the sixth. VHS
plated a run in the sixth, but that was as
close as they got as ECI won the game
11-7.
vs. Brantley
Vidalia broke the game open in the
bottom of the first inning with seven
runs and never looked back against the
Herons. The score was 10-0 after two
innings, with VHS well out in front.
Brantley scored a run in the top of
the third inning, but two more from
VHS in the bottom half gave the Indi
ans a 12-1 lead.
VHS took the win over Brantley
12-1.
vs. Pierce
In Blackshear on Wednesday, Vida
lia fought their way to another Region
win to close out the regular season. Vi
dalia led the game 2-0 after the first in
ning, and pushed that lead to 4-0 in the
second.
VHS added a run in the top of the
fourth inning to lead 5-0, but Pierce got
on the board with two runs in the bot-

The Robert Toombs Chris

ers softball team played
games against Bulloch Acad
emy on Tuesday of last week
and then on Wednesday they
hosted Citizens Christian
Academy
Durden
On Monday, October 9,
during a game at Pinewood
Christian Academy Junior
pitcher Meredith Durden
broke the school record for
career strikeouts. (Game
coverage in last week's pa
per.) The record was broken
when Meredith struck out
her 478 hitter to end the 4th
inning. The previous record
was held by former Crusader
and current Georgia South
ern standout pitcher Bailey
Holland. Meredith is the
daughter of Brian and Alicia
Durden.
Durden was recognized
during the Lady Crusaders
game against Bulloch Acad
emy on Tuesday
Coach Brian Fitzgerald
on Meredith's accomplish
ment said, “I just couldn't be
more proud of Meredith.
Not only is she a great com
petitor, but she is an excel
lent leader, teammate, and
even a better person. She
represents her school com
munity and her family name
with honor is easy to coach
and has respect for other in
dividuals talents, looking
forward to great things not
only on the field but in life
from Meredith.”
vs. Bulloch
It was a high scoring
contest between the Crusad
ers and the Gators with a to
tal of 35 runs being scored.
Bullcoh took the lead in the
top of the first inning with
two runs. RTCA answered in
the bottom half with one
run, but Bulloch came back
with two more in the top of
the second inning to take a
4-1 lead.
In the bottom of the sec
ond inning the Crusaders
seemed to take control of the
game as they plated nine
runs to jump out to a 10-4
lead. But Bulloch put seven
runs on the board in the top
of the third inning and then
added another in the fourth
to take a 12-10 lead.
Bulloch scored again in
the top of the fifth inning,
but in the bottom of the
frame RTCA tied the game
with three runs to make it
13-13. In the top of the sixth
inning Bulloch added three
more runs to take a 16-13
lead, but RTCA bounced
right back with four more to
go on top 17-16.

ROSWELL - At a prosperous au
tomobile dealership, everyone is in
motion. Nothing is idling except for a
smooth-running engine which has just
been finely tuned to make a satisfied
customer more
satisfied.
The service
department is
like a doctor’s
office—a hi-
tech environ
ment with a
machine to ef
fect rehab for
every ailment
or need. In
the body shop
there is bump
ing and grinding as every wrinkle or
dent is eliminated, making a fender
look like it did when it was in mint
condition when it left the factory for
dealership delivery.
The scene reminds you of a bee
hive where everybody has a role to play
in the success of the operation. No one
is relaxing except for the customers in
the waiting room.
Sales folk, men and women, are
trained to manage their communica
tion skills along with arming them
selves with knowledge of their prod
uct and making sure they are familiar
with all vehicle details. That gives the
customer the confidence that they can
trust the presentation.
At the Nalley Toyota dealership in
Roswell, the man who is most active
in the dealership is the dealer himself,
Arnold Harrison, who, if he chose to,
could flash two Super Bowl rings from
his four-year tenure with the Pitts
burgh Steelers. (He played a fifth year
with the Cleveland Browns.)
An overachiever since his forma
tive years, dating back to grade school,
Arnold has always given anything he
undertakes his best effort. With the
good fortune of signing with the Steel
ers after lettering four years at Geor
gia, he doesn’t want to consider what
might have been on his resume if he
had played on teams with poor person
nel.
He played for a highly regarded
coach at Pittsburgh, Bill Cower, and
enjoyed success at Georgia, where he
won an SEC ring under Mark Richt in
2002.
Football taught him to underscore
the time-honored basics: teamwork,
self-sacrifice, second effort, work eth-
