The Vidalia High
School Indians scored 29
first-half points Friday
night in Nahunta as they
cruised to a 29-7 win
over the Brantley Co.
Herons. For the 2nd
week in a row, the Indi
ans Special Teams came
up with points; this time,
it was for two touch
downs as Vidalia im
proved to 5-2 and 3-0 in
Region 3AA.
Friday night on a
very wet field, the Indi
an’s offense struggled to
make any ground against
the Heron’s defense in
the first quarter, totaling
only 25 yards for the first
twelve minutes. How
ever, the special teams
did come up big on the
first Heron possession,
as Alton Boyles picked
off a fake punt attempt
and returned it 55 yards
for the first score of the
night to make it 8-0 after
a successful two-point
try.
The Indian’s offense-
would get untracked on
their third possession of
the night on a 29-yard
pass from Jackson Berry
to Antonio Barron, cap
ping a 9-play 50-yard
drive to make the score
14-0 after a missed PAT
with 8:56 to go in the
half.
The Indian’s special
teams would get their
second score of the night
on the Heron’s next pos
session when the Brant
ley Co. punter mishan
dled a snap and had his
punt attempt blocked
and scooped up by Ron
ald Pointer for his 2nd
TD off a blocked punt in
as many weeks. Follow
ing a successful PAT by
Adam Crutchfield, the
Indians led 21-0 with
6:18 left in the half.
The Indians’ defense

It was a fun morning at
The Cagez in Vidalia for
their grand opening on Sat
urday of last week. The
Cagez is a new indoor hit
ting facility located on Ma
ple Dr. just past the old
hospital. As part of the
grand opening, former At
lanta Brave, Ryan Klesko,
was in town to sign auto
graphs and even work with
the kids in attendance on
batting drills, and he did
some individual work with
them on hitting as well.
The Cagez is an indoor
climate controlled baseball
and softball hitting facility
with HitTrax training
equipment. It is open from
4-8 p.m., seven days a week,
and has 30 minute or 1
hour slots. They also have a
game room with arcade
games and concessions.
Party rentals and private
lessons are also available.
Klesko said of the
event, “We started running
the Atlanta Braves Scout
Team last year, and we ac
tually have a lot of players
from this area, so I was
happy to come down. This
gives these kids a great
place to come and to just
get better. This is an awe
some facility.
“I love it down here in
the Vidalia area. I come
down here all the time not
just for the sport, but I also
do some hunting and fish
ing in the area, and have
had lots of friends from the
area over the years. I sneak
in and sneak out quite a
bit.”
The Cagez owner
Maggie Brice Snell stated,
“We have had a good turn
out today, some good food,
and the kids getting the
chance to experience the
facility and see what we
have to offer them. Having
Ryan Klesko here has also
made it a special day, with
him getting to work with
the kids, give lessons, and
sign some autographs. It is
great for the kids to have
that experience. We want
to thank everyone that
came out and we look for
ward to seeing the kids in
the area come here to work
and to improve.”
