The Treutlen County
High School Vikings
football team welcomed
the Wheeler County
High School Bulldogs to
Soperton on Friday of
last week for the rivalry
game. It was a defensive
battle with a total of just
15 points scored in the
contest, with the Vikings
taking the win. It is the
first time since 2015 that
Treutlen has beaten both
rivals, Wheeler and
Montgomery, in the
same season. This was
also win number 100 for
Treutllen Head Coach
Pat Collins.
It did not take long
for Treutlen to get on the
board. With 8:58 left in
the first quarter the Vi
kings took the early lead
when Peyton Miller took
it in from 15 yards out.
Treutlen went for the
two-point conversion,
which proved to be pivi-
tal, and Angelo Peeples
broke the plane to put
Treutlen on top 8-0.
Near the end of the
first quarter of the con
test the Bulldogs scored
as quarterback Rhett
Rodgers found Jeremiah
Kincy on a 31-yard
touchdown pass.
Wheeler lined up for the
two-point try to tie the
game, but a penalty
moved them back. They
then decided to take the
extra point, which was
good from Juan Juarez,
making the score 8-7 at
the end of the first quar
ter.
What was not ex
pected was that those
would be the only two
touchdowns of the entire
game.
Neither team could
get much going on of
fense throughout the rest
of the game. The only
real chance came in the
third quarter from the
Bulldogs as they tried a
33-yard field goal. The
kick had the distance,
but went wide right to
keep Treutlen on top,
8-7.
Treutlen held on to
take the win by that
score. It is just the sec
ond win of the season for
the Vikings, who are now
2-7 on the year and they
are now 1-3 in Region
play. Treutlen will wrap
up their regular season
on the road in McRae
this Friday night against
the 7-1 Trojans of Telfiar
County with kickoff at
7:30 p.m.
The Bulldogs are 3-6
on the year and 0-4 in
Region play. They will
play their final regular
season this Friday at
home against the Patri
ots of Wilcox County
with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.

The Eagles did get on
the board first with a run in
the top of the first inning.

the bottom of the frame.
Neither team scored over
the next few innings, but in

their first lead of the game at
2-1.

the win, 7-3, and keep their
hopes alive.
vs. Jeff Davis
Up next for VHS was a
familiar foe in the Yellow
Jackets of Jeff Davis. Al
though not in the same Re
gion anymore, there is still a
rivalry in softball between
these two perennial power
houses. This game, though,
went in favor of the Yellow
Jackets as they took a seven
run win over VHS.
ons (l-O) took down the
Lions (0-1) 95-83 in a tough
battle on the home hard
wood.
Paine hit Brewton-
Parker hard early, coming
out with a 10-2 lead in the
first three minutes of play.
The Barons responded with
a run of their own to level
the game at 12 points apiece,
led by Grant Sanders with
five of the 10 points scored.
A pair of huge back-to-
back treys from Jordan
Johnson at the 13:40 and
the 13:23 marks moved
Brewton-Parker into its first
lead of the night, holding an
18-14 edge over the Lions.
Paine quickly answered to
level the game at 18 apiece.
Johnson put BPC on
his back once again with an
“and-one” opportunity with
12:13 to play, giving BPC a
three-point advantage. The
first half proved to be quite
the battle as both sides were
trading shot for shot. Paine
eventually moved to a 28-26
lead over BPC with nine
minutes to play, but the Bar
ons battled back into con
trol.

Vidalia took the early
lead with a run in the top of
the second inning, but that
was the only run they scored
in the game. JD tied the
game in the bottom of the
third inning at 1-1, and then
went on top with two more
runs in the fourth to lead
3-1.
The Jackets scored an
other in the fifth, and four
more in the sixth on their
way to an, 8-1, win over the
Indians.
The loss ended the run
for VHS. Vidalia finished the
season with an overall re
cord of 22-10, and they were
12-3 in Region play, finish
ing as the #4 team in the
State in AA.
Sanders and Dre Burroughs
gave BPC a four-point lead
before a jumper from Bur
roughs with eight minutes
to play slid the Barons for
ward with a 34-28 advan
tage. Brewton-Parker ad
vanced to a nine-point lead
with 6:30 on the clock as
Burroughs knocked down
another trey followed by a
jumper from Lance Smith.
Paine pulled the deficit
down to four points with
5:50 remaining, yet Brew
ton-Parker continued to
press forward by taking ad
vantage of trips to the char
ity stripe. The Barons even
tually closed out the half
with a 55-45 lead at the
break, capped off by a pair
of free throws from
Domanic Betancourt.
Brewton-Parker came
out of the break with a long
shot from Burroughs to
keep a double-digit lead.
The Lions clawed their way
back into the game with a
12-2 run that covered the
first five minutes of the half.
Sam Faraday-Bensley
sparked an 11-2 run with
four points to help boost
Brewton-Parker back into a
double-digit advantage over
the visitors with a 72-59
lead with 12:56 remaining.
BPC held a 16-point lead
over PC after Johnson net
ted another trey ball with
11:10 on the clock.
The Lions continued to
respond well, pushing back

half which covered about six
and a half minutes. The Bar
ons remained in control of
an 81-77 lead despite giving
away double figures.
Brewton-Parker gave
themselves a 10-point cush
ion over two minutes of
play, leading 88-78 with
2:02 remaining as a dunk
from Sanders capped a 7-1
run. Fouls and a late three-
