Obituaries
Mr. Adrian Jones
Adrian Robert Jones,
74, born in Reigate, Sur
rey, England, and raised
in Buckland, Betchworth,
England, died on October
23, 2023, in Huntsville,
Alabama. He was born on
April 30, 1949. He and
his wife made their home
in Fayette County for 38
years.
Adrian had a distin
guished military career,
serving in the Royal Air
Force for five years. Af
ter his military service, he
embarked on a successful
career as an international
freight forwarder. He su
pervised cargo at British
Caledonian Airways in St.
Louis and Atlanta, as well
as British Airways in At
lanta.
Adrian and his wife Ala
raised two beautiful chil
dren in Fayetteville, Geor
gia. He was a devoted hus
band and father and proud
of his ability to provide for
his family in his adopted
country of America.
Adrian was a lifelong
follower ofjesus Christ and
was baptized and raised in
the Church of England. He
and his wife were founding
members of All Saints An
glican Church in Peachtree
City, Georgia. Adrian’s
faith was an integral part of
his life.
In his free time, Adrian
indulged in his passion for
airplanes. His career al
lowed him to pursue his
lifelong love, as he traveled
the world, photograph
ing planes and recording
their registrations. He was
also an ardent supporter of
Crystal Palace soccer team.
Adrian is survived by
his loving wife, Ala Jones;
his son, Robert Jones; his
daughter, Caroline Holt;
his daughter-in-law, Ali
cia Jones; his son-in-law,
Matthew Holt; and six
grandchildren. He is also
survived by his sister, Ju
lie Barnett; brother-in-
law, Neil Barnett; as well
as two sisters-in-law and
one brother-in-law, many
nieces, nephews, and cous
ins. Adrian was preceded in
death by his parents, Cecil
and Alma Jones.
A graveside service
was held at 1:00 p.m. on
Friday, October 27, 2023,
at Peterson Cemetery, Al
ley, Georgia. The family
received friends from 1:00
p.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Thurs
day, October 26, 2023, at
the funeral home.

dedication to his family, his
love of England, and his un
wavering faith. He bore the

Mrs. Carolyn Williams
Thigpen, age 85, of the Ori-
anna Community of Sop-
erton, died on Friday, Oc
tober 27, 2023, in Augusta.
Mrs. Thigpen was
born in Wheeler County
and lived in Florida for a
short time before returning
to Orianna in 1960. She
worked as a seamstress at
the Soperton Shirt Factory,
in the pressing department
at Roydon Wear and as a
Quality Control Inspec
tor at Easter Seals before
retiring in 2007, after 43
years. She attended Ori
anna Baptist Church. She
was preceded in death by
her parents, John Charles
Williams and Mary Lizzie
Nesmith Williams; her
husband of 69 years, Edi
son Thigpen; 1 brother,
Charles Bobby Williams;
1 sister, Randi March; and
1 son-in-law, Rufus Mixon.
Survivors include 1
daughter, Deborah E. Mix
on, Cochran; 1 son, Billy
Thigpen (Sarah), Luling,
LA; 1 sibling, Virginia
Coleman, Winter Haven,
FL; grandchildren, Blaine
Thigpen (Kristyn), Wes
ley Thigpen (Holly), and
Dawn Phillips (Mike);
great-grandchildren,
Madilyn, Maddox, Emrie
and August Edison; sev
eral nieces and nephews;

Funeral services will
be conducted on Satur
day, November 4, 2023,
at 11:00 a.m., at Orianna
Baptist Church, with Rev.
Arthur Conley officiating.
Interment will follow in the
Orianna Cemetery.
Her family will receive
friends on Saturday, at the
church, from 10:00 a.m.
until the hour of the ser
vice.

Ms. Darlene Billings
ley, age 63, ofVidalia, died
on Wednesday, October
25, 2023, at the Commu
nity Hospice House fol
lowing an extended illness.
Ms. Billingsley was a
native of Pittsburgh, PA,
and lived most of her life
in Vidalia. She was a home
maker and attended Tifton
First Assembly of God.
She is preceded in death
by her parents, Pauline and
John Hyatt; and her dog,
“Pooches.”
Survivors include her
fiance, William Strickland
ofVidalia; 1 daughter, Gina
Carter ofVidalia; 2 broth
ers, Lloyd Williamson
of Brunswick, and Dave
Hyatt of Pittsburgh; and
2 grandchildren, Adaline
Carter and June-Bug Hyatt.
A memorial service
will be held at a later date.

Mr. Joseph Randall
“Joe” Chancey, age 70, of
Lyons, died on Saturday,
October 28, 2023, after a
long illness.
Mr. Chancey was born
in Savannah and lived in
Toombs County most of
his life. He was a 1971 grad
uate of Lyons Senior High
School, where he played
baseball and basketball. He
was also a graduate of the
Arlington Baptist College
in Arlington, TX, where he
earned a Bachelor of Sci
ence in Pastoral Studies.
He was an active, long-time
member of Liberty Baptist
Church until his illness hin
dered his attendance. He
was well-known around
Toombs County for his
witness for the Lord Jesus
Christ, freely and openly
witnessing to anyone and
everyone he met. He also
sold insurance for many
years in the Southeast Geor
gia area. He is preceded in
death by his parents, Joseph
Lee Chancey and Barbara
Glaze Chancey; an infant
brother, William Austin
Chancey; and 1 sister, Bar
bara Lee Chancey Wilder.
His family includes his
siblings, Roger Chancey
and wife Debi of Lyons, and
Kathy C. Alexander of Col
lins; 2 nieces, Alysha Lev-
erett and husband Tommy
of Jefferson, and Kayla Ray
and husband Kevin of Ly
ons; and 1 nephew, Johna
than Chancey and wife
Bethany of Spring Lake,

be Wednesday morning,
November 1, at 11:00, at
Liberty Baptist Church in
Lyons, with Pastor Michael
Plowman officiating. Burial
will follow at Pine Crest
Cemetery.

til just prior to the service.

Mrs. Barbara Ward,
age 87, of Santa Claus, died
on Thursday, October 26,
2023, at Oxley Park Health
and Rehabilitation in Ly
ons after an extended ill
ness.
Mrs. Ward was a native
of Montgomery County,
lived most her life in Santa
Claus, and retired as a loan
officer from Toombs Fi
nancing after 25 of service.
She was a member of Free
will Baptist Church and
attended the Adult Sun
day School Class. She was
preceded in death by her
husband, Thomas Ward; 1
daughter, Paula Sue Ward;
1 granddaughter, Jennifer
Joyner; 2 brothers, Keith
Thigpen and Van Thigpen;
and 1 sister, Marilyn Woo
ten.
Survivors include 3
children, Roger Ward of

and Wayne Ward all of San

Dublin after a brief illness.

Pete, FL, for many years be
fore moving to Mt. Vernon
in 1992. He .
was a trucker
for 50 years
and a veteran
of the United
States Navy.
He was Baptist by faith
and was a member of Bear
Creek Baptist Church. He
is preceded in death by his
parents, Melton Robert
and Nell Cooper; and 1
brother, Stanley Cooper.

in 1950. She lived in New
Jersey, moving to Dallas,
TX, in 1990, and made Vi
dalia her home since 1997.
She retired from Innovax
after 26 years as Manager
of Human Resources. She
was preceded in death by
her parents, Leila Colson
Ellyson and Maxwell E. El-
lyson.

Mr. Patrick “Ricky”
Phillips, age 71, of Soper
ton, died on Tuesday, Oc

nity Hospice in Vidalia.
Mr. Phillips was born
in Vidalia, graduated from
Treutlen County High
School, and attended
ABAC in Tifton to study
Agriculture and Farming.
He was a lifelong resident
of Treutlen County and
always farmed and worked
as a truck driver. He attend
ed Morningside Baptist
Church. He was preceded
in death by his parents,
Thomas Grayson Phillips
and Vera “Suzy” Youmans
Phillips, and 1 brother,
James H. “Jim” Phillips.
