Three arrested for
Three local men have been
arrested within the past week
for allegedly bloodying an
Auburn man in late October
with their fists, legs and an
ax handle.
Andrew James Perry, 21,
586 Quail Trail Road in
Auburn, was arrested Tuesday
and charged with one count
of aggravated assault, two
counts of aggravated battery
and one count of battery.
Jeremy Connor Ryan,
20, 43 Carolyn Avenue in
Auburn, was arrested Nov. 6
and charged with two counts
of aggravated assault and two
counts of aggravated battery.
Randy Dale Rutledge, 20,
102 Creekwood Road in
Winder, was arrested Nov. 6
and charged with one count
of aggravated assault and one
count of battery.
According to a Barrow
County Sheriff's Office inci
dent report, William Highfield
of Quail Trail Road on Oct.
25 called for an ambulance,
saying he had been beaten
up in his home. EMS offi
cials found Highfield leaning
against his parked truck and
bleeding from his head. He
also had several other inju
ries.
EMS officials called the
sheriff’s office, and the
responding deputy reported
finding blood on the drive
way, in the garage, in the
basement and upstairs in the
house. Highfield was trans
ported by ambulance to
Gwinnett Medical Center.
He told a sheriff's depu
ty who interviewed him at
the hospital that the 10:30
p.m. incident was preceded
by arguments with a female
roommate and with Perry,
who also resides in the
house.
Highfield said he had gone
to bed after being threatened
by Perry over the telephone.
He said he locked the door
to his bedroom, which is in
the basement, to keep from
being surprised. However, he
said, Perry and the other two
men came to the house and
Perry demanded that he come
upstairs.
“William stated that when
he arrived at the top of
the stairs, two other males
attacked him from the side,
and (Perry) also began to
attack him,” the report states.
Highfield said he bit one of
his alleged assailants and the
assailant began to choke him.
He said Perry then told one of
the other suspects to hit him
with the ax handle and he
was struck with the object in
his head, stomach, both arms
and both legs.
The victim said he man
aged to crawl away and to
drag himself downstairs,
where he picked up his cell
phone and walked outside to
call for help.
He said the three men
began to approach him a sec
ond time outside, but backed
off when they saw that he had
a cellphone. They then left
the scene in a vehicle.
Highfield said it was Ryan
who struck him with the ax
handle.
The victim's injuries were
assessed at the scene as a
laceration to his head, contu
sions to his head, stomach,
back and both legs and pos
sible fractured ribs and wrist.

Stolen credit
cards used for
phone sex
For four years, a Barrow
County couple has wondered
who used their VISA card
number to place hundreds of
dollars in calls to a phone sex
service.
The mystery apparently was
solved this month when the
couple's neighbor discovered
that his identity also had been
stolen in 2004 for a similar
purpose and that the culprit
apparently was a younger rela
tive.
According to the Barrow
County Sheriff's Office,
25-year-old Jimmy Justin
Bolden, 952 Boss Hardy
Road, was arrested Nov. 7
and charged with 10 counts of
identity theft.
Bolden allegedly attempted
to charge $647.15 in calls to
his neighbor's VISA card, but
used incorrect expiration dates.
Credit card officials notified
the couple that the fraudu
lent charges had been rejected.
Then the phone-sex service
sent them a bill. The charges
were for four calls lasting a
total of 93 minutes.
During the same period,
Bolden also allegedly charged
$712 in calls on a credit card
fraudulently obtained by using
his relative's name, but his
own telephone number and
address.
The calls were made to a
company called Preferred
Platinum Plan. The company
assisted the victims in helping
to determine who had placed
the calls, according to the doc
uments.
