Paul L. Whitmer, 51, of Hoschton,
died Friday, November
23, 2007.
He was born in Atlanta
in 1956 and was the son
of Robert and Dorothy
Whitmer of Snellville. He was an owner
of Athens Energy Specialist in Norcross.
He loved wood working, riding his Harley
and working in his yard. He was a lov
ing and devoted husband, father, brother,
grandfather and friend, loved ones stat
ed. Mr. Whitmer was a veteran, having
served in the United States Air Force, was
a sargeant for six years, and honorably
discharged in 1983.
He was preceded in death by the moth
er of his two daughters, Katrina Whitmer;
and an aunt, Eleanor Russell.
Survivors include his wife of 17 years,
Helen Whitmer; daughters and sons-in-
law, Brooke and Ronnie Lemons, Winder,
and Blaire and Casey Elrod, Pendergrass;
sons, Colby Whitmer, Hoschton, Chris
McClung, Decatur, Ala., Sr. Airman Chase
McClung, US AF, Valdosta; brother, Philip
Whitmer, Loganville; sisters and brothers-
in-law Karen and Tony Bums, Duncan,
Okla., Becky and Henry Boldin, Winder,
Sarah and Kenneth Love, Grayson; grand
children, Cody, Eli, Briley, Emily and
Jaxson; and many nieces, nephews, aunts,
uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday,
November 27, at Wages Snellville Chapel.
Burial was at Eternal Hills Memory
Gardens.

Frances Harwell
Winder
Frances G. Harwell, 78, of Winder,
died Tuesday, November 20, 2007.
Bom in Jackson County, she was the
daughter of the late Grady and Osee
Howington Ginn. She was a homemaker
and a member of Union Baptist Church.
Mrs. Harwell was preceded in death by
her husband, Joe Harwell; and a son, Joe
Harwell Jr.
Survivors include daughters, Beth Nix
and Jennie Mitchell, both of Winder; son,
Chris Harwell; three grandchildren; and
four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday,
November 21, at Smith Memory Chapel
with the Rev. Bill Hayes officiating.
Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

to St. Mary’s Hospice or Union Baptist
Church.

Frances Mathews
Jefferson
Frances Amanda Nix Mathews, 84, of
Jefferson, died Monday, November 19,
2007.
Bom in Jackson County, she was the
daughter of the late Jesse Homer and Vallie
Johnson Nix. She was a retired clerical
worker with the American General Life
Insurance Company, and was a member
of Friendship Christian Church in Athens.
Mrs. Mathews was preceded in death by a
brother, Lewis Nix.
Survivors include a son and daughter-
in-law, Melvin and Mary Epps, Pineville,
La.; grandchildren and spouse, Michael
and Rebekah Epps, Columbus, Ohio, and
Renee Epps, Danielsville; great-grand
children, Jacob Carter and Thomas Epps;
a sister, Inez Nix, Jefferson; brothers
and sisters-in-law, Ernest M. and Edna
Nix and Howard P. and Sara Nix, all
of Jefferson; sister-in-law, Kataleen Nix,
Gainesville.
Funeral services were held Wednesday,
November 21, in the chapel of Evans
Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Harris
officiating. Burial was in the Galilee
Christian Church Cemetery. Pallbearers
were Bobby Cash, J.W. Canup, Sam
Elliott, Jeff Hendrix, Jerry Johnson and
Wayne Nix.

Ronnie Huff
Winder
Ronnie Huff, 65, of
Winder, died Wednesday,
November 21, 2007.
A native of Gwinnett
County, he was the son
of the late Thurmond and Latrell Hudson
Huff and was retired from The Johns-
Manville Corporation. Mr. Huff was
a veteran, having served in the United
States Army during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include a sister, Sandra Toole,
Winder; and several nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday,
November 27, in the chapel of Carter
Funeral Home with the Rev. Dewayne
Payne officiating. Burial was in
Shadowlawn Cemetery in Lawrenceville.

Karen E. Brown, 56, of Winder, died
Saturday, November 24, 2007.
Born in Leon County, Fla., she was
the daughter of William and Betty Earle
or Orlando, Fla. She was a graduate of
Florida State University, and owner and
operator, along with her husband, of Mall
Air of GA. Mrs. Brown was preceded in
death by a daughter, Kerrie Lynn Brown.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth
Brown, Winder; son, Clifford Brown,
Winder; Daughter, Christina Brown,
Lake Jackson, Texas; four grandchildren;
four great-grandchildren; brother, Larry
Earle, North Carolina; sisters, Barbara E.
Bennett, Orlando, Fla., and Marsha Earle,
Louisville, Ky.
Funeral services will be held Thursday,
November 29, at 2 p.m„ at Smith Memory
Chapel with the Rev. Donnie Pennington
officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill
Cemetery.

Winder
Nancy “Carole" Chancey, 65, of
Winder, died Monday, November 26,
2007.
Born in Walton County, she was the
daughter of the late Ralph V. and Pearl
Viola Dillard Stinchcomb. She was a
member of the Apostolic Church of the
Lord Jesus Christ, and a member of
the Bible Sunday School class. She was
employed by Georgia Hardwoods. Mrs.
Chancey was preceded in death by her
husband, Donald James Chancey Sr.
Survivors include a son, Donald
Chancey, Winder; daughters, Lisa Bentley,
Comer, and Amy Chancey, Winder; eight
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren;
sisters, Glenda Casper and Elizabeth
Harris, both of Winder, Judy Woodall,
Canton, and Mary Taft, Hoschton.
Funeral services were held Tuesday,
November 27, at Smith Memory Chapel
with Bishop Hammond officiating. Burial
was in Barrow Memorial Gardens.

‘Lannie’ House
Winder
Delaine “Lannie" House, 47, of Winder,
died Saturday, November 24, 2007.
Born in Toombs County, she was the
daughter of Betty Freeman of Braselton
and the late Louie Talmadge Lumley. She
was a member of Macedonia Community
Baptist Church in Braselton, member and
past president of GAPT (Gas Association
of Pupil Transportation), honorary chair
man of Barrow County Relay for Life.
She retired after 21 years with Barrow
County as a bus driver before becoming
director of transportation of the Barrow
County School System.
Survivors include her husband, Perry
House, Winder; daughters, Angela House
Galvan and Malynda House, both of
Winder; grandchildren, Lawson and
Adriana Galvan; brother, Talmadge
Lumley, Danville; sisters and brother-in-
law, Linda and Vaughn Reynolds, Winder,
who also acted as parents, Wanda Stevens,
Braselton, Tina Estes, Panama City, Fla.,
and Michelle Johnson, Winder.

Sunday, November 25, 2007.
She was the daughter of the late
Malcolm and Mary Smith Winn, and was
preceded in death by her husband, Fred
Lester Fiddler.

Holy Springs, and Kurt Fiddler, Dacula;
daughters, Julia Brumbelow, Zachary,
La., and Angela (Missey) Cromon,
Norcross; and a sister, Estelle Echols,

Mary “Tootsie" Payne Norris, 76, of
Jefferson, died Wednesday, November
21, 2007.
She was bom in Jackson County, the
daughter of the late Alvin and Lona
Jackson Payne. She
was a retired school
bus driver with the
Jefferson City Schools,
where she also worked
in the cafeteria, and
the Jackson County
Schools. Mrs. Norris
was preceded in death
by a brother, Joe
Payne.
Survivors include her husband, William
L. "Pete" Norris, Jefferson; sons, Stanley
Russell Gaddis, Commerce, and Phillip
Payne Gaddis, Jefferson; daughters,
Patricia Alice Pulliam, Royston, and Rita
Wilson, Gainesville; step-son, Dennis
W. Norris, Pendergrass; sisters, Peggy
Shirley, Agnes Bell, Reba Payne, Neta
Payne Hix and Nancy Payne Riley, all
of Jefferson, Hazel Lancaster, Belmont;

Helen Burrell, 83, of Gainesville, for
merly of Winder, died Tuesday, November
20, 2007.
She was the daughter of the late Robert
Lee and Ethel Brady Boswell. She was
a native of Barrow County, was a home
maker, and a member of the Winder
First Baptist Church. Mrs. Burrell was
preceded in death by her husband, Andy
Burrell.
Survivors include children, Robert
Burrell, Gainesville, Tracy Burrell,
Oakwood, and Maria Hale, Buford;
grandchildren, Candace Ross, Jefferson,
and Chad Hale, Buford.

November 23, at Rose Hill Cemetery with

Chatsworth
Daisy Vira Hooper Rhodes, 82, of
Chatsworth, died Tuesday, November 13,
2007, at her daughter’s home, following
an extended illness.
Born in Ringgold on February 13,1925,
she was the daughter of the late Erby and
Florence Hooper. Her hobbies and special
interests were her great-grandchildren,
according to loved ones.
Survivors include sons, John Rhodes,
Hoschton, Richard Rhodes, Ringgold, and
Jess Edward Rhodes, Talmo; daughters,
Loretta Palmer, Braselton, Rita Presley,
Dahlonega, Glenda Franklin, Liberty,
S.C., Judy Clark, Fountain Inn, S.C., and
Betty Johnson, Chatsworth; 24 grandchil
dren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday,
November 17, at Lane Funeral Home in
Rossville with the Revs. Eddie Schubert
and Andy Lands officiating. Burial was at
Lee Chapel Cemetery in Ringgold.

James Jackson "Jack" Anderson, 71, of
Alto, died Thursday, November 22, 2007,
at his residence.
Bom in Habersham County on July
17, 1936, he was the
son of the late Josiah
Janies and Jimmie Edna
Chapman Anderson. He
had attended Baldwin
Baptist Church since
childhood and was the owner and oper
ator of Anderson Gulf Station for 23
years. He was retired from Ken Bar
as a sales representative. Mr. Anderson
also was a veteran, having served in the
United States Army, where he was on the
International Marksman Team. He was
preceded in death by a step-son, Harrison
P. Wiggins.
Survivors include his beloved wife,
Sarah Foster Anderson, Alto; a son,
Andrew Jackson "Drew" Anderson,
Alto; step-daughters, Melissa Wiggins
Robinson, Leesburg, Va., and Meredith
Wiggins-Garcia, Demorest; a sister,
Peggy Anderson Nestler, Gainesville; and
seven grandchildren.

Church of Christ. Mr.
Mize was preceded
in death by his wife,
Modane Banks Mize;

Edward Eugene Pitman, 92, of Flowery
Branch, died Wednesday, November 21,
2007.
He lived most of his life in Jackson,
Clarke and Hall counties and was a
member of Flat Creek Baptist Church in
Gainesville.
He and his wife owned and operated
the Dixie Cream Do-nut Shop, where
it was in business for any years, first
on Lumpkin Street, then on Milledge
Avenue, serving students that went by
there, who were just like family.

November 25, in the chapel of Memorial
Park Funeral Home in Gainesville.

She was bom on January 31, 1914, in
Jackson County, and was the daughter of
the late W.H. and Bessie Evans Maley.
She was a retired schoolteacher and was a
member of the Bethany United Methodist
Church. Mrs. Butler

by her husband, Warren

Roberta Miller.

Elsie Mae McClure, 75, of Maysville,
died Monday, November 26,2007, at BJC
Medical Center in Commerce.
Bom in Clarksville, she was the daugh
ter of the late Cathey and Vista Clark
Collins. Mrs. McClure was preceded in
death by her husband, Clifton McClure;
and a daughter, Shelby Jean Holland.
Survivors include daughters, Patricia
Ann Farrington, Laura Blankenship and
Angela Brown, all of Maysville, Janice
Andrews, Rincon, Heather De La Rosa,
Flowery Branch, Rachel Boyer, Homer;

Reuben Patterson
Jefferson
Reuben Thomas (R.T.) Patterson, 83,
of Jefferson, formerly of Norcross, died
Monday, November 26, 2007.
He operated a funeral home in Norcross
and Lilbum until his retirement in 1997.
He attended Georgia Teacher’s College,
Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College,
and graduated from John A. Gupton
School of Mortuary Science, Nashville,
Tenn. He was a veteran of World War II,
serving in the United States Navy, and
was active in many civic and church orga
nizations, including the
Georgia and National
Funeral Directors
Association and the
Graduate School of
Embalmers. In the early
1970s, Mr. Patterson
gave the first ambu
lance to the Gwinnett
Fire Department, set
ting in motion the devel
opment of the county’s
ambulance service.
Survivors include his
wife. Opal Foster Patterson; daughter
and son-in-law, Mari Beth and Sonny
Hartsock, Jefferson; son and daughter-
in-law, Thomas and Debbie Patterson,
Jefferson; sister, Florence Griswold,
Nicholson; grandchildren, Matthew

Johnny C. Casper, 38, of Blue Springs,
Mo., formerly of Bethlehem, died
Thursday, November 8, 2007.
Born in Barrow County, he was the
son of Emory and Frances Borders
Capser of Bethlehem. He graduated
from Whistleville Christian School, had
a bachelor’s degree from Berry College,
and a master’s in criminology from
Indiana State University. He had worked
for the Jackson County, Mo. Sheriff’s
Department, and had a passion for educa
tion.
Survivors include his wife, Melissa
Knaver Casper, Blue Springs, Mo.; a
son, Jonathan Casper, Blue Springs, Mo.:
daughter, Amelia Casper, Blue Springs,
Mo.; brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and
Courtney Casper, Winder; mother and
father-in-law, Jennifer and Lyle Knaver,
Blue Springs, Mo.

Marie Hewell, 87, of Alto, died Sunday,
November 18, 2007, at her residence, fol
lowing an extended illness.
Bom in Banks County on October
24, 1920, she was the daughter of the
late William Nelson and Nora Betha
Taylor Crumley. She was employed with
Carwood Manufacturing for 24 years and
was also a homemaker. She was a member
of the Living Mission United Methodist
Church, and also attended Antioch PFB
Holiness Church. Mrs. Hewell was pre
ceded in death by her husband, George
Franklin Hewell Sr.; sons, David, Daniel
and Albert Hewell; sister, Velma Crumley;
and a brother, Vernon Crumley.
Survivors include daughters, Geraldine
Hulsey, Alto, and Oneda Phagan,
Gainesville; sons, Darrell Hewell and
Nelson Hewell, both of Alto, and George
Hewell Jr., Mt. Airy; brothers, William
