him twice last week.
Braselton police said Boris L.
Bums, 33, of Hanahan, S.C., was

Bums still resisted arrest and took

Gwinnett County police arrest
ed a Missouri man on Friday for
displaying graphic pictures of
aborted fetuses on a panel truck
that he was driving near the Mall
of Georgia.
Police charged Robert
Roethlisberger Jr., 44, with dis
orderly conduct.
A citizen called police to say
a truck driving in the area was
displaying “bloody” and “gory”
images of aborted fetuses, police
said. A Gwinnett County police
officer found the truck and
stopped its driver.
Two banners on both sides
of the truck measured approxi-

County Police Department.
A police officer told
Roethlisberger that the area was
very crowded with mall shoppers
and children who were exposed
to the photographs. The officer
gave him the option to display
his anti-abortion banners without
the graphic photographs. Police
said Roethlisberger refused to
follow the request.
The officer arrested
Roethlisberger, removed the ban

A team of assessors from the
Commission on Accreditation for
Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc.
(CALEA) will arrive on Saturday,
Dec. 1, to examine all aspects of
the Hall County Sheriff’s Office’s
policies, procedures, management,
operations and support services.
Verification by the team that the
Hall County Sheriff’s Office meets
the commission’s state-of-the-art
standards is part of a voluntary
process to gain accreditation — a
highly prized recognition of law
enforcement professional excel
lence, said Hall County Sheriff
Steve Cronic.
As part of the on-site assessment,
agency employees and members
of the community are invited to
offer comments at a public infor
mation session on Monday, Dec.
3, at 7 p.m. Those interested in
speaking are required to sign-in
between 6:30-7 p.m.
The public session will be held
in the jury assembly room of the
Hall County Courthouse, located
at 225 Spring Street, Gainesville.
Public comments will also be
taken by telephone on Tuesday,
Dec. 4, from 1-3 p.m., by calling
770-531-5176.
Telephone comments, as well as
appearances at the public infor
mation session, are limited to 10
minutes and must address the
agency’s ability to comply with
CALEA’s standards. A copy of
the standards is available at the
Hall County Sheriff’s Office or by
contacting Sgt. Tammy Crawford,
at 770-297-5530.
Those who want to submit
written comments about the Hall
County Sheriff’s Office’s abil
ity to meet the standards for
accreditation are asked to write:
Commission on Accreditation
for Law Enforcement Agencies,
Inc. (CALEA), 10302 Yaston
Place, Suite 100, Fairfax, Virginia

The accreditation program man
ager for the Hall County Sheriff’s
Office is Sgt. Crawford, who said
the assessment team includes law
enforcement practitioners from
similar, but out-of-state agencies.
The assessors will review written
materials, interview individuals,
and visit officers and other places
where compliance can be wit
nessed.
The assessors are John “Rob”
Sofie (team leader), Omaha, Neb.;
Donald J. Jones, Lemont, Ill.; and
Blythe Frausto, Tempe, Ariz. Once
the commission’s assessors com
plete their review of the agency,
they report back to the full com
mission, which will then decide if
the agency is to be granted accred

Accreditation is for three years,
during which the agency must
submit annual reports attesting
continued compliance with those
standards under which it was ini
