Gladys Harris
Winder
Gladys Harris, 80, of Winder, died
Monday, December 10, 2007.
She was bom in Sylacauga, Ala., the
daughter of the late Ulyses and Annie
Bunn Ward. She was a member of East
Side Baptist Church and was a retiree of
R. & R. Manufacturing Company. Mrs.
Harris was preceded in death by her
husband, James Lee “Nim” Harris: and
siblings, Zeffie Hall and James Ward.
Survivors include children, Virginia
Morgan, Phyllis Harris and Lynn Dial,
all of Winder; brothers. Bill Ward,
Winder, and George Ward, Jefferson;
sisters, Elizabeth Scott and Shirley
Bramlett, both of Winder, Alice Gabriel,
Ensley, S.C.; four grandchildren; and
six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, December 12, in the chapel
of Carter Funeral Home, Burial was in
Barrow Memorial Gardens.

charge of arrangements.

Francine Stephens
Braselton
Francine Stephens, 74, of Braselton,
died Friday, December 7, 2007, at
Athens Regional Medical Center in
Athens.
Bom in Banks County on January
13, 1933, she was the daughter of the
late Bessie Kitchens Stephens. She was
retired from Oxford and a member of
Campus Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann
Stephens, Braselton; cousins and many
close friends.
Funeral services were held Monday,
December 10, in the chapel of Little-
Ward Funeral Home with the Rev. Jody
Vickery officiating. Burial was in Grey
Hill Cemetery in Commerce.

Sarah Brannon
Winder
Sarah S. Brannon, 70, of Winder,
died Saturday, December 8, 2007.
She was bom in Holmes County,
Fla., the daughter of the late Isaac A.
and Lorine Skinner Snell. She was a
homemaker and member of the Winder
First Baptist Church. Mrs. Brannon
was preceded in death by her husband,
Cecil Brannon; and a sister, Doris Snell
Thomas.
Survivors include a son and daugh-
ter-in-law, Brad and Devre Brannon,
Athens; and grandchildren, Patrick and
Cayde Brannon.
Funeral services were held Tuesday,
December 11, at Smith Memory Chapel
with the Rev. John Talley officiat
ing. Burial was in Barrow Memorial
Gardens.

Allie Rooks
Braselton
Allie T. Freeman Rooks, 93, of
Braselton, died Sunday, December 9,
2007.
She was bom in Barrow County,
the daughter of the
late Albert and Tinnie
Paige Freeman. She
was a homemaker
and a member of
Zion Baptist Church
and member of the
Braselton Women’s
Club. Mrs. Rooks was
preceded in death by
her husband, Fred Hubert Rooks.
Survivors include a daughter,
Juanita Duck, Braselton; sisters, Oppie
McKenzie, Statham, and Dean Beasley,
Buford: five grandchildren; 10 great
grandchildren; and six great-great
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday,
December 11, in the chapel of Evans
Funeral Home with the Revs. Mike
Phillips and Dwayne Smith officiat
ing. Burial was in Zion Baptist Church
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Cal Waldorf, Ryan
Waldorf, Chad Duck, Blake Duck,
Taylor Thaxton, Ben Thaxton and
Cameron Miller.

Lagree Smith
Winder
Lagree Smith, 82, of Winder, died
Saturday, December 8, 2007.
A native and lifelong resident of
Barrow County, he was the son of the
late Ernest and Judy Griffith Smith.
He was a member of the Winder First
Baptist Church and was a retiree of
R. & R. Manufacturing Company of
Auburn. Mr. Smith was preceded in
death by sons, Ken Smith and Gary
Smith; and sisters, Elise Ashley and
Betty Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Almeda
Simpson Smith, Winder; children,
Kim Phillips, Winder, and Tim Smith,
Auburn; grandchildren, Jamie Martin,
Cody Smith, Lee Smith and Madison
Phillips.
Funeral services were held Monday,
December 10, in the chapel of Carter
Funeral Home with Dr. John E. Talley
officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill
Cemetery.

Ann Standridge
Winder
Ann L. Standridge, 82, of Winder,
died Sunday, December 9, 2007.
Bom in Gwinnett County, she was
the daughter of the late Bertie and Vesta
Johnson Christopher. She was a home
maker and a member of the Winder
First Baptist Church. Mrs. Standridge
was preceded in death by her husband,
Robert Ned Standridge.
Survivors include sons and daugh-
ters-in-law, Robert “Bobby” and
Shari Standridge, Winder, and Chris
and Kay Standridge, Buford: daugh
ter and son-in-law. Sherry and Steve
Jackson, Winder; eight grandchildren;
seven great-grandchildren; sisters. Dot
Duncan, Sugar Hill, and Norma D.
Christopher, Decatur.
Funeral services were held Tuesday,
December 11, at Smith Memory Chapel
with the Rev. John Talley officiat
ing. Burial was in Barrow Memorial
Gardens.

Hoschton
You T. Xiong, 87, of Hoschton, died
Sunday, December 9, 2007.
He was a native of Laos, and a
member of Hmong New Hope Alliance
Church.
Survivors include his wife, Poua
Xiong, Hoschton; sons, Vang Xiong,
Michigan, Seng Xiong, Laos, Nhasue
Xiong, Auburn, and Vue Xiong,
Hoschton; daughter, Zoua Xiong Her,
California; 26 grandchildren; and 5
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday,
December 14, from 5 to 9 p.m., Saturday,
December 15, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday, December
16, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Monday,
December 17, from 10 a.m. until 12
noon, with the Rev. Tou B. Her officiat
ing. Burial will be in East Shadowlawn
Cemetery in Lawrenceville,

Evelyn Bradberry
Statham
Evelyn Bradberry, 75, of Statham,
died Tuesday, December 4, 2007.
Bom in Barrow County, she was the
daughter of the late Earnest and Ruth
Wilburn Baker. She was a retired den
tal hygienist and a member of Bogart
Christian Church. Mrs. Bradberry was
preceded in death by her husband,
James Bradberry.
Survivors include a sister-in-law,
Josephine Roberts, Cleveland; and
nephews, Wesley Roberts and Wendall
Roberts.
Funeral services were held Thursday,
December 6, at Smith Memory Chapel
with the Revs. Russell Repeski and
Ben Parker officiating. Burial was in
Evergreen Memorial Park.

Benjamin Kellum
Jefferson
Benjamin Paul Kellum, 23, of
Jefferson, died Friday, December 7,
2007, at Emory Hospital.
He was the son of Ralph Gerald and
Bethe Crawford Kellum of Jefferson,
and Martin and Donna Kesler of
Nicholson. He was a member of the
Free Chapel Worship Center and was a
student at Georgia Southern University.
Survivors in addition to his parents,
include brothers, Brett Kellum, Monroe,
Keith Kellum, Covington, Chris Kellum,
Tucker, Blake Kellum, Jefferson, and
Clay Kesler, Nicholson; sisters, Mamie
Kellum Kiser, Morganton, N.C., and
Charli Kesler, Nicholson.

Saturday, December 8, at Silver Shoals
Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev.
Robin Martin officiating.

Jefferson
Debra Alice McMillan Bentley, 50,
of Jefferson, died Sunday, December
9, 2007.
She was bom in Charlotte, N.C., the
daughter of Donald Francis McMillan
of Athens and the late Alice Marshall
McMillan. She was a homemaker
and a member of Arcade Community
Church.
Survivors in addition to her father,
include her husband, Donnie Eugene
Bentley, Jefferson; daughters, Felicia
Cannon, Jefferson, Elizabeth Rozul,
Warner Robins, Crissy Row, Kentucky;
a son, Matthew Bentley, Jefferson;
brother, Robert McMillan, Cartersville;
and four grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held
Thursday, December 13, at 7 p.m., in
the chapel of Evans Funeral Home,
Visitation will be held at the funeral
home from 5 to 7 p.m., prior to the
services.

Stanley Crocker
Lula
Stanley Wayne Crocker, 61, of Lula,
died Saturday, December 8, 2007, at
Northeast Georgia Medical Center in
Gainesville, following a sudden illness.
Bom in Banks County, he had lived
in Hall County for a number of years,
and was the son of Calvin and Rachel
Crocker of Lula. He had been in the
construction business for the past 29
years and was the song leader for the
Living Missions United Methodist
Church for 20 years. He was a member
of the Lula Masonic Lodge #352 and
also a member of The Gideons. Mr.
Crocker was a loving husband, father
and grandfather, and loved to hunt and
spend time with his 5 grandsons, loved
ones stated.
Survivors in addition to his parents,
include his wife, Jeanette Duncan
Crocker, Lula; sons and daughters-in-
law, Deron and April Crocker and Jason
and Marcy Crocker, all of Lula; grand
sons, Jonah Crocker, Brody Crocker,
Levi Crocker, Lane Crocker and Caden
Crocker, all of Lula; sisters, Evalene
Davidson, Alto, Brenda Arrowood,
Gainesville, and Magalene Pruitt,
Nelson; brothers, Swayne Crocker and
Ronnie Crocker, both of Cornelia.
Funeral services were held Tuesday,
December 11, in the chapel of Memorial
Park Funeral Home with the Revs.

Jimmie Hill
Maysville
Jimmie W. Hill, 66, of Maysville, died
Monday, December 10,
2007. at the Gwinnett
Medical Center in
Lawrenceville. ~
Born on May 11,
1941, in Rabun County, he was the son
of the late Bill and Stella Jane Taylor
Hill. He was a maintenance engineer
with Frito Lay, and was a veteran,
having served in the United States Air
Force in Vietnam. He attended New
Haven Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Janie
Watkins Hill, Maysville; a son, Jason
Hill, New York; daughter, Karen Day,
Maysville; brothers, Bobby Hill,
Baldwin, and Gary Hill, Buford; sister,
Ann Yearwood Ramey, Lakemont: a
granddaughter, Taylor Day, Maysville;
and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday,
December 13, at 2 p.m., in the New
Haven Baptist Church in Commerce,
with the Revs. Terry Hagwood and
Jerry Smith, and Mr. William Hill offi
ciating. The body will be placed in New
Haven Baptist Church at 1 p.m. to lie
in state until the funeral hour. Burial
will be in Jackson Memorial Gardens
in Jefferson.
The family will receive friends at Ivie
Funeral Home in Commerce after 2
p.m. Wednesday, December 12.

Gillsville
Gladys Armour Worley, 87, of
Gillsville, died Wednesday, December
5, 2007, at Northeast Georgia Medical
Center.
She was bom in Hall County, the
daughter of the late Hansel and Beulah
Leach Armour. She was a member of
Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and was a
homemaker. Mrs. Worley was preceded
in death by her husband, James Worley,
Sr.
Survivors include daughters, Jeri
Williams and Francis Hudgins, both of
Gainesville, and Joan Kali, Gillsville;
sons. Jolly Worley and Michael Worley,
Gillsville, Ricky Worley, Danielsville,
Philip Worley, Cleveland, and Fabian
Worley, Commerce; brothers, R.B.
Armour and Harmon Armour, Lula,
Charles Armour, Brookton, Woodrow
Armour, Gainesville; sisters, Rena
Hunnicutt, Clarksville, Elora Cash,
Kate Mote and Susie Bruce, all of Lula,
and Christine Alexander, Commerce;
14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grand
children.
Funeral services were held Thursday,
December 6, in the chapel of Little-
Ward Funeral Home with the Rev.
Ralph O. Smith officiating. Burial was
in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Brenda Phillips
Talking Rock
Brenda Lee (Dyer) Phillips, 48, of
Talking Rock, died Friday, November
30, 2007, at her residence, following an
extended illness.
Bom in Banks County, she was the
daughter of Nellie Castleberry Dyer
of Gainesville and the late Frank Dyer.
She was a member of Pond Fork Baptist
Church in Talmo. Mrs. Phillips was pre
ceded in death by a sister. Velvet Dyer.
Survivors in addition to her mother,
include a daughter, Christy Phillips,
Orlando, Fla.: son, Nathan Phillips,
Commerce; grandson, Zachary Phillips;
granddaughter, Nataleigh Phillips;
sisters, Judy Martin, Talmo, Trudy
Hamby and Lisa Underwood, both of
Gainesville.
Funeral services were held Friday,
December 7, at Pond Fork Baptist
Church with the Rev. Johnny Knight
officiating.

John Garrison
Carnesville
John Howard Garrison, 86, of the
Plainview Community of Carnesville,
died Saturday, December 8, 2007, at
BJC Medical Center in Commerce.
He was bom in Franklin County on
January 31, 1921, the son of the late
John Marvin and Ollie C. McDuffie
Garrison. He was a farmer and was
retired from Coates and Clark in
Toccoa. He was a 50-year member of
the Carnesville Masonic Lodge #186
and was a member of the New Bethel
Baptist Church. Mr. Garrison was pre
ceded in death by a brother, Henry
Dewane "Shorty” Garrison.
Survivors include his wife, Louise
Gillespie Garrison; son and daughter-
in-law, Douglas H. and Barbara B.
Garrison, Winder; daughter, Linda
Payne, Carnesville; five grandchil
dren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister,
Morene Coffee, Demorest.
Funeral services were held Monday,
December 10, at the Indian Creek
Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill
Stacey officiating. Burial was in the
church cemetery.

Blairsville
Louise Sargent, 81, of Blairsville,
died Thursday, December 6, 2007, at
her residence,
Mrs. Sargent was preceded in death
by her husband, Ben Sargent; a son,
Dennis Sargent; and two half-sisters.
Survivors include sons, Jimmy
Sargent, Arcade, Donald Sargent,
Winder; daughter, Judy Deyton,
Blairsville; brothers, James Whisnant,
Commerce, Marvin Whisnant, Arcade,
J.E. Whisnant, Pendergrass: half-
brothers, Ken Whisnant, Gainesville,
Teddy Whisnant, Ray Whisnant: sister,
Claudie Wallace, Commerce: half-sis
ters, Susie Grindle, Gainesville, Wanda
Hart, Arcade; seven grandchildren; 15
great-grandchildren; and two great-
great-grandchildren.
