Jackson County set to host
annual Jingle Jam featuring
handful ofNE Georgia teams
In what has become an annual tradition in
recent years, the Jackson County basketball pro
gram will be home for the holidays.
This weekend, JCCHS
will play host to three other
Northeast Georgia schools in
the annual Jingle Jam basket
ball tournament.
This year’s field includes
schools from all but one of
the Georgia High School
Association’s five classifica
tions. Along with Class AAAA
host Jackson County, nearby schools Apalachee
(Class AAA), Buford (Class AA) and Hebron
Christian (Class A) will be taking part in the
two-day event, which begins Friday and will
wrap up Saturday.
JCCHS will open play on Friday against
Buford after both squads fell at West Hall in their
last games this past Thursday.
On the boys side, the Panthers head into the
game against the Wolves after having split their

last four games. Buford, on the other hand, has
started the season slow and is 2-4 on the year. On
the girls side, Jackson County has played well
at times this season and heads into the tourna
ment with a 6-4 record on the season. In Buford,
the Lady Panthers will be up against one of the
better teams in the state in Class AA. The Lady
Wolves head into the tournament with a No. 3
ranking.
Friday’s other games will feature Apalachee
taking on Hebron Christian.
JINGLE JAM
Jackson County senior Alyssa Esco and the Lady Panthers will take on No. 3 ranked Buford
on Friday in the annual Jingle Jam tournament hosted by JCCHS. Play will continue through
Saturday for head coach Chad Pittman’s team (left), which will look to improve on its solid 6-4
start to the season.
Wrestling
Panthers pull out tourney title
Travels to Hart County for tournament Jan. 5
BY ALLEN LUTON
In its most recent event, the
Jackson County wrestling team
produced its most impressive result
so far this season. The Panthers
traveled to South Forsyth this past
weekend and came home with
a first-place finish at the annual
Santa Slam.
Jackson County had just enough
to earn the event’s championship
as its 207.5 points edged out sec
ond place North Forsyth’s 206.5.
Commerce (188.5) was third,
followed by host South Forsyth
(184.5).
En route to the tournament title,
the Panthers saw five grapplers
make it to the finals of their respec
tive divisions and in all the squad
had seven wrestlers place.
Among the title winners at the
event were 125-pounder Ben
Lesniak, 145-pounder Andrew
Blackwell, and 285-pounder Jose
Carrillo-Garcia.
Justin Best (135) and Kevin
Spicer (152) also advanced to
finals and brought home runner-
up points for the Panthers. Third-
place finishers Ryan Shekey (103)
and Ryan Howe (189) rounded
out those placing at the event for
JCCHS.
After flirting with first-place fin
ishes in a number of events this
season, first-year Jackson County
head coach Jason Powers was glad
to see his team come through with
the tournament title.
“We have placed in all the tour
naments we have entered so far
this year, but this was our first vic
tory,” Powers said. “The team was
very excited and it came down to
just one point. It’s nice to go into
the long Christmas break with a
tournament victory.”
Jackson County will now rest up
for a while, with its next event not
scheduled to take place until Jan.
5 when the team travels to Hart
County for the Georgia-Carolina
Classic.
