Company buys Traditions golf course
Canongate Golf Clubs has announced that
it has purchased the golf course at Traditions
of Braselton, located off Interstate 85 in
Jefferson.
Mike Dasher, an Arthur Hills protege with
other Atlanta projects such as Golf Club of
Georgia and The Standard Club to his credit,
designed the golf course.
The Traditions of Braselton golf course
opened in 2005 and features five tee place
ments. Traditions of Braselton also offers PGA
certified instruction for golfers of all skill
levels.
Traditions will make the nineteenth property
for the Canongate portfolio in Atlanta.
“We are excited to add Traditions as a fan
tastic golf option for Canongate members as
well as open the door to a greater golf value for
current Traditions members,” said Canongate
president and CEO Joe Guerra. “We look for
ward to embarking on an improvement plan
and transitioning the club to a private member
ship.”
While Traditions has been semi-private since
its opening, Canongate has plans to transition
it to private club status within the first few
months of 2008. The introductory rate for join
ing Traditions of Braselton is set at $750, and
will be available at that rate for a limited time.
While the property is fairly young, Canongate
has a renovation plan in place to upgrade sev
eral areas of both the course and the clubhouse
in 2008.
Capital improvements are prioritized to
include an expansion to the existing restaurant
facility, significant course maintenance equip
ment purchases and project plans, as well as
converting the existing golf cart fleet to a new
electric fleet featuring GPS later this year.
“We have spent some time with the Traditions
staff, and we feel like together we have come
up with a plan that will benefit the current
Traditions members as well as make it a very
attractive private membership for any prospec
tive member,” said Canongate regional man
ager Jody Graham.
Canongate Golf Clubs consists of 18 private
clubs in the metro Atlanta area, five in Houston,
and one in the Hilton Head area. Canongate
members now have access to 19 different clubs,
with 22 championship courses available.

Red Cross advises storing
water for emergency kits
Weight loss competition
seeking participants
The American Red Cross is urg
ing residents to prepare for extreme
drought conditions — and other
potential disasters — with a well-
stocked disaster supplies kit.
“Water is often overlooked in
preparing a disaster supplies kit
because, in the past, it's been readily
available,” said Jennifer Pennington,
executive director for East Georgia
Chapter of the American Red
Cross.
“The drought is reminding all of
us that water can’t be taken for
granted,” she added. “We need to
plan for our water needs in a disaster
along with those for food, clothing,
flashlights, batteries, personal items
and other essentials.”
Having enough clean water is
essential to life. A normally active
person needs to drink at least two
quarts of water each day. Hot envi
ronments can double that amount.
Children, nursing mothers and ill
people will need even more. Water
is also needed for hygiene and to
prepare food.
The Red Cross recommends that
everyone store at least one gallon
of water, per person, per day. You
should store a two-week supply of
water for each member of your
family.
HOW TO STORE WATER
•While it is safe to store tap water
in clean, plastic containers such, as
soft drink bottles, the Red Cross
recommends that you purchase
commercially bottled water in this
situation to help conserve the public
water supply.
•Consider purchasing containers
of water a few at a time when you go
to the grocery store. This will help
you to manage the expense of stock
ing water for long-term use.
•Keep bottled water in its original
container, and do not open it until
you need to use it.
•Store water in a cool, dark place
and rotate your supply every six
months.
•As you stock food in your disas
ter supply kit, look for foods that
require little, if any, water for prepa
ration. Also look for canned foods
that contain water as a primary
ingredient.
•Don’t forget to include enough
water for pets in your emergency
supply kit.

preparedness visit http://eastgeorgia.

Independence dependence
Eyes of the
Father
Parrish Myers

}
Chloe recently experienced
a crisis. The crisis was due
to something she wanted
and something she . . . well,
wanted.
I was sitting on the couch,
trying to hold Chloe. The
problem was, she didn’t want
to be held. She kept doing
her imitation of a wet noodle,
going completely limp and sliding off my lap and into a heap on the floor
at my feet.
The other problem was, she didn’t want to not be held, either. As soon as
she hit the floor, she was on her feet, reaching out to have me pick her up
and put her back on my lap. But once she was in my lap, she became a wet
noodle again, and the process repeated itself over and over.
Chloe wanted her dependence, and she wanted her independence. She
wanted the security that came from being with her daddy, and she wanted
the security that came from being in charge of herself and what happened
to her. She wanted the best of both worlds. She wanted to have her cake and
eat it, too.
Not so unlike us, really. How many times do we long to be with our
Heavenly Father, to give ourselves up to Him, to allow ourselves to be com
pletely dependent upon Him and His presence?
How long does that last? How long do we enjoy that dependence before
we're struggling to climb out of His lap and once again become the masters
of our own fates?
That independence is an exciting, and sometimes scary thing, though. So
it’s not too long before we’re holding our arms up to God, begging Him to
take us and set us on His lap again.
But then we want Him to let us down again. And the whole process
repeats itself over and over.
We want to be dependent upon Him, but we also want to be independent
of Him. We want the security that comes from being a child of God, but we
want the security of calling our own shots in life. Just like Chloe, we want
the best of both worlds. Just like Chloe, we want to have our cake and eat
it, too.
We can’t have it both ways. It has to be one or the other. Either we're
dependent upon our Heavenly Father, or we’re independent of Him.
If you were required to make that decision right now, to choose one or
the other, which would it be? Would you choose to be dependent upon Him,
giving up your own control and relying on His love, strength and security no
matter what may happen? Or would you choose to be independent of Him,
retaining control of your life, living it on your own terms, and doing only
what makes you happy?
One way is the way of wisdom. One way is the way of folly.
I know that my choice would be to remain dependent upon Him. I've suf
fered some pretty big failures and learned some mighty tough lessons when
I’ve tried to go it alone.
What's your choice?
