BOC split on zoning request
Jackson Countv
Motion to reduce waiting period to reapply denied
By Angela Gary
AngieEditor@aoI.com
In a 3-2 vote, the Jackson County Board
of Commissioners denied a request Monday
night from Rusty David to be allowed to
reduce the 12-month waiting period for the
re-submittal of an application for a compre
hensive plan amendment.
His request for the zoning change was
denied in November 2010. David said he
was not at this meeting when his request
was denied because he had a family issue
and couldn’t be at the session. He was at
one earlier meeting but the request was
tabled because commissioner Tom Crow
was not present.
Commissioner Crow made a motion
to approve David’s request and Dwain
Smith seconded it. But the motion failed
after chairman Hunter Bicknell and com
missioners Chas Hardy and Bruce Yates
voted against it.
In other business Monday, the BOC:
•approved an agreement with Moreland
Altobelli Associates for the installation of
turbine vents at the old Darnell landfill
and the old SR82 landfill. The cost of this
project will be $3,250.
•approved the annual renewal of the
contract with the Georgia Department of
Transportation to provide transportation
services to the disabled, elderly and non
driving county citizens.
•heard from commissioner Smith that
former road superintendent Larry Guthrie
has taken a job with BM&K, the consul
tant company that handles engineering
duties for the county. Smith said his salary
is $45 per hour and he is handling Jackson
County projects.
