Jackson County firm part of vaccine distribution logistics
A Jefferson company will
have a part to play in the
upcoming distribution of a
vaccine for the Coronavirus.
Foam Fabricators, which
has a plant in Jefferson,
will be making expanded
polystyrene (EPS) shipping
containers to transport dos
es of the virus. The national
company also manufactured
distribution support in 2009
for a vaccine for the H1N1
virus.
The containers have to
keep some of the vaccine as
cold as -70 degrees during
shipping.
“At Foam Fabricators, we
are incredibly proud to play
such an important role in
the overall vaccine effort.’'
stated Michael Hays, Vice
President of Foam Fabrica
tors. “Our team recognizes
the importance of packag
ing, and we know better
than anyone that without the
right solutions, the vaccine
cannot safely get to where it
needs to go. This is a huge
project close to the hearts
of many, and our decades
of accumulated human and
capital resources are being
put to the test as we rise to
the occasion.”
Foam Fabricators is based
in Arizona and has 12 plants
across the nation.
The firm also has a plan to
recycle the containers once
the distribution is complet
ed, according to the maga
zine.

NGMC Gainesville gets enhanced
vascular operating room
Northeast Georgia Medical Center
(NGMC) Gainesville has an updated
and enhanced endovascular operating
room (EVOR). A surgical team has al
ready completed the first surgery in the
room.
“We are very excited about what this
new space means for our patients,” says
James Reeves, MD, Northeast Georgia
Physicians Group (NGPG) vascular sur
geon and medical director of NGMC’s
EVOR. “We’ve always been equipped
to care for the complete spectrum of
vascular conditions, and now we can
handle even the most complex cases in
a fraction of the time, without transfer
ring patients to other hospitals.”
The new EVOR will help NGMC ex
pand capacity for vascular surgery -
nearly doubling it - ensuring that more
patients receive advanced care for the
treatment of routine and emergent con
ditions such as aneurysms, peripheral
blockages and carotid artery disease.
“The vascular program at NGMC
has always been exceptional and it’s
been steadily growing and advancing
throughout the last 10 years,” says Kev
in Meyer, director of Invasive Cardiolo
gy at Northeast Georgia Health System.
“Our experienced vascular surgeons and
highly-trained EVOR team are leading
the way in clinical expertise and pro
viding our patients the highest level of
endovascular care in the region.”
For more than a decade, the vascular
surgeons of NGPG and Longstreet Clin
ic have utilized NGMC’s two existing
EVORs to perform thousands of mini-
mally-invasive procedures every year.

prehensive vascular services available

NGMC Braselton certified
as Primary Stroke Center
Northeast Georgia
Medical Center (NGMC)
Barrow and NGMC Bra
selton were recently cer
tified for the first time
as Primary Stroke Cen
ters by DNV GL Health
care. shortly after NGMC
Gainesville was recerti
fied as a Primary Stroke
Center.
“Our health system
continues to prove that it
is dedicated to ensuring
stroke patients in our re
gion are offered the best
care close to home,” said
Dr. Sung Lee, NGMC’s
medical director of Neu-
rointerventional Surgery.
“With three of our hos
pital campuses now cer
tified as Primary Stroke
Centers, patients can rest
assured that if they arrive
with stroke symptoms,
they will receive quick
care from a skilled and
passionate team.”
Primary Stroke Center
certification means that
a hospital can provide
treatment to a broad range
of stroke conditions along
with some acute thera
pies and admit patients
to a designated stroke
unit specifically assigned
for stroke care. Primary
Stroke Centers also act as
a resource center for oth
er facilities in the region,
including being a main
transfer site for stabilized
stroke patients.
“We work hard to make
sure our community is
educated on the signs
and symptoms of stroke,”
said Tina Johnson, Stroke
Program coordinator at
NGMC Barrow. “That
way, if someone sees a
person suffering a stroke,
or feels like they’re suf
fering one themselves,
they know exactly what
to do and where to get
treated.”
Before their certifica
tion, NGMC Barrow and
NGMC Braselton were
designated Remote Treat
ment Stroke Centers by
the Georgia Department
of Public Health.
Along with NGMC
Gainesville’s recertifica
tion. the hospital recently
completed construction
on a new, state-of-the-
art neurointerventional
lab, furthering its stroke
treatment with the abili
ty to perform mechanical
thrombectomies.
“Time is of the essence
when it comes to stroke.”
said Tracie Withington,
Stroke Program coordina
tor at NGMC Braselton.
“We’ve worked diligently
to ensure that we provide
stroke care in a timely
manner and now, being
recognized as a Primary
Stroke Center, patients
can trust that even more.”

Centers in Barrow. Bra
