Obituaries
Patricia Ann McElroy Bennett
Patricia Ann McElroy Bennett, known to all as “Pat”,
met Jesus face to face on Sunday, May 14, 2023. A
loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grand
mother and friend to many, her earthly body finally laid
to rest at the age of 78.
She was born on July 31,
1944, in Athens, to the late
Alfred and Mildred McEl
roy. She was the oldest
of four, when the family
moved to Madison Coun
ty-
She is preceded in death
by her youngest brother,
Kenneth McElroy; and
survived by her brother,
Wayne, Hull; sister, Bren
da (Rick) Ingram, Nichol
son; as well as many niec
es and nephews.
She graduated from Madison County High School,
where she was a cheerleader. She later graduated from
Lanier Tech in Clarkesville, with a degree in accounting.
She married Charles Curtis “Buddy” Bennett Jr., Ath
ens. They were married 17 years before the Lord called
him home in 1980.
Pat and Buddy had one child, Charles Curtis “Curt”
Bennett III (Michelle), Athens. They also had four
grandchildren, Victoria (Austin) Bums, Athens, Jaclyn
(Caleb) Dickson, Savannah, Caroline and Meredith; and
two great-grandchildren, Eleanor Jane Burris and Jona
than Charles Burris, Athens.
Pat was always very involved with her church, Prince
Avenue Baptist Church, helping with youth camps and
managing crafts with the kids. She opened her own busi
ness in 1986, Mail Plus USA. She closed that business
in 1998 after a long, successful career of serving Athens
with their shipping needs and gourmet food gift baskets.
She loved to do crafts and especially with her grand
daughters and great-granddaughter. Pat was always
learning how to do the latest craft and teaching it to
others. She helped raise awareness for the Shaken Baby
Syndrome Campaign by crocheting purple baby hats.
Funeral service: Wednesday, May 17,2023, at 10 a.m.
in the chapel of Lord and Stephens, West.

from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Rothell “Rock” Curtis Caudell
BALDWIN — Rothell “Rock” Curtis Caudell, 64,
Baldwin, passed away on Tuesday, May 16,2023.
Mr. Caudell was a fife
long resident of Banks
County. He was bom on
October 21, 1958. He was
preceded in death by his
father, Louie J. Caudell.
Rock will be remembered
as a friend to all.
He is survived by his
mother, Martha Gary
Caudell, Cornelia; broth
er and sister-in-law, Stacy
and Kathy Caudell, Hen
dersonville, N.C.; sister
and brother-in-law, Patti and Scottie Chambers, Cler
mont; and nieces, Joy Chambers, Milbury, Mass.; and
Dana Erwin, Cornelia.
A private family service will be held at a later date.

Bill Howard Goss
DANIELSVILLE — Bill Howard Goss, 81, Daniels-
ville, passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Pied
mont Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens.
Mr. Goss was bom in Danielsville, on May 1, 1942,
son of the late Fred Goss and the late Floretta Evans
Goss. He was the owner and operator of his own busi
ness where he was a heavy equipment operator. Mr.
Goss was a longtime member of Colbert First Baptist
Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
brothers, Allen Leon Goss and Floyd Goss.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jean Moon Goss;
sons, Mark Goss, Athens, and Cody Goss, Danielsville;
daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Tim Shubeit, Hull;
nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral service: Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 11 a.m.
at Colbert First Baptist Church with Pastor Blaine Sea-
graves officiating. Interment will follow in the Daniels
ville Memorial Gardens.
Family to receive friends: Tuesday, May 23, 2023,
from 10-11 a.m. at the church. During other times, the
family will be at the home.

Curtis “Roger” James
DANIELSVILLE — Curtis “Roger” James, 77, Dan
ielsville, formerly of Colbert, passed away at his home
surrounded by family on Sunday, May 14, 2023.
Roger was born Decem
ber 11, 1945, in Athens,
to Curtis and Lillie Ree
Morris James. A devoted
Christian, quietly practic
ing his faith through ser
vice to others, Roger was
a life-long member of Col
bert First Baptist Church.
He graduated from Mad
ison County High School
in 1964 and married Pa
tricia “Pat” Walls of Wat
kinsville in 1965. Married
for more than 57 years, they made a home together in
his hometown of Colbert for over 40 years.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserve and was a found
ing member of the Colbert Volunteer Fire Department.
In 1970, he established Roger James Tire Service where
his customers, if they were not already, became friends.
He spent his remaining years in Danielsville near his
daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren, who were the
apples of his eye—rarely missing any of their activities.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis
and Lillie Ree James.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; daughter, Sheila James
Davis (Patton), Danielsville; grandson, Spencer Patton
Davis, Tampa, Florida; and Alexandra Elise “Alexi” Da
vis, Danielsville.
Funeral service: Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at 11 a.m.
at Colbert First Baptist Church followed by a graveside
service at Colbert Cemetery.
Family to receive friends: Tuesday, May 16, 2023,
from 6-8 p.m. at Lord and Stephens, Danielsville.

Nancy Kuhnel
JEFFERSON — Nancy Kuhnel, 88, Jefferson, passed
away Friday, May 12,2023, after an extended illness.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George and
Dora Clemens; a son, Eric Kuhnel; and grandson, Ken
neth Brazell.
She is survived by her sons and daughters, Debra Bra
zell, Sandra (Ken) Cook, Brenda Milbum, Bruce (Wen
dy) Kuhnel and Brian (Amy) Kuhne; surviving grand
children, Leila Cook, Eric (Rachael) Brazell, Nicholas
Cook, Brent Kuhnel, Alyssa Kuhnel, Adam Kuhnel,
Ford Kuhnel, Cypress Kuhnel and Jesslyn Kuhnel; and
her only sister, Joan Rockwell, also survives her.
She is interred at Milton Fields, Milton, Ga.

Michael William Mauldin
HOSCHTON — Michael William Mauldin, 74,
Hoschton, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at
Northeast Georgia Medical Center - Gainesville, sur
rounded by his family.
Mr. Mauldin was born July 24, 1948, to the late Lu
ther and Mellie Mauldin in Gainesville. He attended St.
Michaels Catholic Church in Gainesville and was re
tired from Milliken, where he was a senior supervisor.
Mr. Mauldin is survived by his wife, Rosanna Maul
din; children, Michael (Kendra) Mauldin II, Anthony
(Sara) White, Alexander White, Agata (Jonathan) Lind
quist, Evelyn White and Rhonda Pittman; 20 grandchil
dren; six great-grandchildren; siblings, Larry Mauldin,
Stanley (Deborah) Mauldin, Greg (Sharon) Mauldin
and Malinda Mauldin; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a
daughter, Sondra Godfrey; and a brother, Jerry Mauldin.
Funeral service: Friday, May 19,2023, at 2 p.m. in the
chapel of Memorial Park Braselton Funeral Home with
interment following at Hoschton City Cemetery. The
Rev. Donald McDuffie will officiate.

Patricia Herrington Miller-Kirkland
DONALSONVILLE — Patricia Herrington Mill
er-Kirkland, 81, Donalsonville, passed away peacefully
surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 14, 2023, in
Athens.
She was born in Ash
ford, Alabama, on June
20, 1941. Pat graduated
valedictorian from Donal
sonville High School, and
again with honors from
Valdosta State University
with a degree in education.
She dedicated her kind
heart to the education of
elementary students until
she retired in 2003 from
Mayesville Elementary
School.
Pat was preceded in death by husband and father of
her children, Carney Miller; and daughter, Heidi Miller.
She is survived by husband, Wayne Kirkland; chil
dren, Shannon (Kelli) Miller and Patrick Miller; grand
children, Jonathan (Kaiti) Miller, Peyton (Cody Dills)
Miller, and Kolin Miller; great-grandchildren, Colson,
Boston and Candler; and beloved dog companion, Beza.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be
planned at a later date.

Kenneth Russell Powell
WINDER — Kenneth Russell Powell, 79, Winder,
passed away peacefully on Monday, May 15, 2023, at
his residence.
Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his parents, Paul
and Katherine Powell; and sisters, Nancy Sosby and
Kathy Worthington.
Mr. Powell is survived by his loving wife, Jean
Powell, Winder; daughter, Linda (Brian) Baker, Mon
roe; son, Chris (Hanna) Powell, Jefferson; sister, Kay
Ashley, South Carolina; six grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral service: Friday, May 19, 2023, at 2 p.m. in
the chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Pastor Tommy
Donn and Chaplain Laura Davis officiating. Interment
will follow the service at Barrow Memorial Gardens.

Kyler Lee Tanksley
GEORGETOWN, TENNESSEE — Kyler Lee Tanks
ley, 19, Georgetown, Tenn. (formerly of Winder) passed
away suddenly from a motorcycle accident on Saturday,
May 20, 2023.
Lee will be greatly
missed as he had a won
derful, loving and giving
heart. Lee was a valued
member of the Georgia
ClayBusters Shotgun
Team through the Scho
lastic Clay Target Program
(SCTP). During his tenure
with the Georgia Clay-
Busters, Lee worked hard
to improve and perfect his
shooting skills along with
competing in numerous
registered shoots and winning awards throughout the
Southeast. Lee loved the outdoors and fishing and was
an avid competitor,
Lee is survived by his father, Tyler (Ashley) Tanksley;
mother, Candy Davis; grandparents, Glenn and Cyndee
McDaniel and Charlotte Sanders; great-grandparents,
Lester and Maxine Elkins; along with several devoted
aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, May 28,
2023, at 1 p.m. at Midway United Methodist Church,
where Lee was a member, 215 Kilcrease Road, Auburn,
Ga. 30011.
