Teen Rock
the Block
ahead Aug. 5
Jackson County Family Con
nection and community members
are hosting the third annual Teen
Rock the Block Party on Satur
day, Aug. 5, from 6-8 p.m. at the
Jefferson Civic Center.
This free event will feature
music, dancing, giveaways and
pizza. There will be drawings
lor prizes including Airpods, gift
cards and Bluetooth speakers.
They will also giveaway goody
bags frill of giveaways and an
event T-shirt (tor the first 100 at
tendees). Businesses are welcome
to donate to the goody bags and/
or donate a door prize.
This event is intended tor youth
in 6th-12th grades.
A separate room will be avail
able this year for parents and
younger siblings to wait while
their teen attends the event.
Resources set to be on hand
include ACCA Grandparent’s
Raising Grandparents; ACTION
Inc. ’s high school youth program;
Advantage Behavioral Health;
American Region Jefferson-Post

“For the third year, Jackson
County Family Connection and
community partners want to do
something special tor our kids to
show our appreciation to them
and to kick start their school
year,” organizer's said. “We know
that mental health is a huge issue
in our community and we want to
get resources into the hands of our
kids so they can know where to
turn if they ever' need to reach out.
“Rock the Block is simply a
party just tor our kids (6th-12th
grader's) where we also have a
room frill of resources available
to the kids which we disperse in
interesting ways. These resource
tables will provide either' a give
away or an interactive activity at
their' table and as the kids come
by, they will get a door prize ticket
tor visiting the table.”

Physician assistant wins state-wide award
Northeast Georgia Phy
sicians Group’s (NGPG)
Haley Queen, PA-C, was
recently named PA of the
Year by Georgia Associa
tion of Physician Assistants
(GAPA). She received the
award from the organi
zation after serving as its
president in 2022, accord
ing to a press release from
NGPG.
“Haley exemplifies our
core values each and ev
ery day,” said Daniel Tuffy,
president and chief admin
istrative officer for NGPG.
“Not only does she care for
her patients well, but she
represents physician assis
tants well in everything she
does. We’re lucky to have
her on our team.”
The PA of the Year award
honors a physician assistant
“who has demonstrated ex
emplary service to the pro
fession in their community
and across the state,” ac
cording to the press release.
According to NGPG,
while Queen served as
the GAPA president last
year, she was recognized
as a leader and served as a
mentor to others across the
state and has done the same
within Georgia Heart Insti
tute.
“NGPG Vascular Cen
ter is an important part of
Georgia Heart Institute, and
Haley’s leadership with
in the vascular care team
and across all of Georgia
Heart Institute helps make
care more seamless for pa
tients,” said Habib Samady,
MD, interventional cardiol
ogist and president of Geor
gia Heart Institute. “I’m
not surprised at all that she
received this award. Her
dedication to her patients
and to her work is certainly
something to be admired.”

NGMC Barrow and Gainesville earn
national awards for emergency care
Northeast Georgia Med
ical Center (NGMC) Bar-
row and NGMC Gaines
ville are two of the first
hospitals in the state to be
awarded the 2023 Lantern
Award by the Emergency
Nurses Association, ac
cording to a press release
from Northeast Georgia
Health System.
“We are honored to have
our emergency care team
recognized as among the
best in the country,” said
Angela Gary, executive di
rector of trauma and emer
gency services at NGMC.
“It’s wonderful to have the
hard work and dedication
of our physicians, staff,
and leadership team rec
ognized, but that’s not why
they do what they do. They
bring their best every day
because they want every
patient to recover quickly
and return home, happy
and healthy.”
