Cold rain water will remove machine
grease from washable fabrics.
Fish may be scaled much easier by first
dipping them in boiling water for a min
ute or two.
“Save cold tea for the vinegar barrel,”
says a noted housewife. It sours and gives
color and flavor.
Paint splashes on the windows can be
easily removed by a strong solution of soda.
"Wash in clean water and dry.
A big ball made of melon-shaped pieces
of bright flannel, filled with wool or excel
sior, for baby to roll and toss about.
Camphor liniment for chilblains: Cam
phor lounce; olive oil, 4 fluid ounces. Dis
solve by gentle heat, and rub on affected
part.
Slip paper bags over the jars of canned
fruit on the shelves, and tuck them under
the bottom. The fruit will keep better if
the light is excluded.
A slate bag ot bright flannel or canvas,
with a littte pocket for small sponge—
inside, and a leather strap long enough
to be carried over the shoulder.

A pair of dusting cloths of colored cheese
cloth, and a neat bag for holding them
made of any plain colored sateen that will
harmonize, suspended by ribbon strings.
To clean hair brushes, sprinkle them
well with powdered borax, let them lie
half an hour, then rub, and wash'thorough
ly. It is a good plan to take two, and rub
together.
A bit of string is not much, but very use
ful when you want it. Have a little bag-box
or drawer and put them away and when
spring comes you will have enough to train
your vines without buying.
Molasses will remove the grass stains so
often found on children’s clothing during
summer. Rub the molasses on the stained
place as if it were soap and wash as usual.
The unsightly stains will be removed
without injury to the fabric.
For a simple but not very solid finish on
amateur work in walnut, take equal parts
of burnt umber, and powdered pumice
stone, mix, and apply with a woolen cloth
dipped in boiled linseed oil. Clean with a
soft cotton clpth, rubbing long and hard.
Plush and velvet as dinner-table dec
orations have seen their day. Colored glass
is on the wane, for on elegant tables fine
pure white damask, glass, silver, and white
and gold china will reign as of old.
