and ablest representative assemblies in th wot Id :
an assembly on the delitierations of which the. desti
nies of tbe free institutions of this country depend t r
their maintenance ; and, there ore, in some degree,
freedom throughout the world. Our original plan
extended no tur.her than this einpitome of tire debates,
with the proceedings; but at he last session we ad
ded an Appendix, to contain all the fully reported
speeches, as prepared by the speakers themselves for
publieatiin. This extended the work from a single
volume of 342 royal quarto pag s, to two volumes,
making, together, 1184 royal quarto pages. These we
have furnished to subscribers at the price of one dollar
for each volume, both or either to be furnished,
tiiiougli the mail, as th y fall tiomthe press in sheets,
and chargeable only with newspaper p .stage, varying
from a cent to ac« nt and a half a sheet.
This we hold to be 1 tie cheap st work ever published, ,
whether the labor and expense of getting it up be
considered, or 'he value of it to the present or future
genera ions. The leading men of all parties in every
State in the Union concentrate in the speeches ol
each session of Cong ess, the mini, the information,
and the feelings ot every portion of our country. The
p ditical history of the country, for the time being is
not only spoken an I written out in Congress, at each
session, but .he designs of every party, or fragment 01
a party, are developed, and the future tendency of the
Govern nent itself laid open. 'l’hus, independently ot
<he interests which ev. ry man must teal tn the real
business transacted in Congress, all who would undei
stand any thing of the politic .1 care. roft ae G >vern

the leading statesmen of ail parties, o 1 every subject,
which engages the attention of Congress, and w.i.cb
