GOV. BROWN’S PI.EA FOR A THSRI)
Tit RM.
Gov. Brown has issued a circular or
manifesto, in which he deprecates the
late popular Convention, and every body
connected willi it and advocates his
own claims to a third term of the Gov
ernorship. The document is too lengthy i
for publication in our columns, and
would not do the Governor any good :
if it were published. Die M.ico/i
f/’-o/j/i. thus comments upon the docu
ment :
The lamentable spectacle of a Gover

mere motion f >r an undue, unprecedent
ed and unsafe extension of his official
power, was never before presented to

seen again. But if anything could add
to the humiliating chara< ter of the ex

self, which is simply and a di liberate
impeachment <f the character and mo-:
fives of hose who have dare I io put a
candidate before the people in opposi

and pretensions.
Die Chief ag'istrate, who claims i
for himself an extension of power which
no other < liief Magistrate of Georg’ia
ever claimed, or ever dared to cl.cm,
and which the people never before ten
dered to any one. even of their most
r< vered public men, in ail the extraor

trate comes forward clinging' with a
deathless clutch to power and oiii -e,
and deliberately characterizes those
opposed to his extraordinary preten
sions as office-seekers! Acs, office
seekers ! ! Dal min ever see tlm like?
Such an inordinate th rst for office
