From Pensacola,
Montgomery, Ala., Nov. 23. A gentle
man who arrived here from Pensacola says
that the firing between Port Pickens and our
batteries ceased at 7 o’clock yesterday evening
The Navy Yard was set fire to by die fire
from Fort Pickens’ guns Out the flames were
speedily extinguished by our troops.
The firing from our guns has ardently been
very effective; and it is reported that the Fed
eral steamship Niagara has been badly dam
aged ami that a breach has been made in one
of the bastions of Fort Pickens.
The firing was commenced by the Fort and
directed against the Confederate steamer

that he will hold Columbus against any force

force on his right, and in rear, and at Fort
Pdlow. He will not receive unorganized
forces. All who come must submit to mili
tary discipline and government.
