HOUSTON DAILY JOURNAL Museum of Aviation honors heroes through cinema By BRIAN SHREVE HDJ Intern The Museum of Aviation is celebrating American Independence and military heroes with a month-long festival of patriotic films, which began July 4 with “God Is My Co-Pilot.” The films, shown in the Eagle Building Vistascope Theater, will play each day at 1 p.m., and each is scheduled to run a full week. All are free to the pub lic. Bob Dubiel, Museum of Aviation vice president of communications, said this is the second year the museum has held the event, and he hopes atten dance to the films will increase. “We’re trying to get the word out because these are interesting films,” he said. “And people can come and sit in the air-condition ing and enjoy a movie for free.” Not surprisingly, the festival kicked-off last Tuesday with a showing of “God Is My Co-Pilot,” the story of aviator and local hero, Gen. Robert Lee Scott, Jr. Scott, a World War II fighter pilot and best-selling author, was a strong supporter of the museum until his death in February. “We wanted to pay tribute to Scott,” said Dubiel. “If you’re thinking about patri otism, he epitomizes that, and we miss him.” “God Is My Co-Pilot” ran last week.
