The Mission Quest
Beginners Flight Camp also
held its last day of class
Friday in the Mission Quest
classroom.
Instructors Chuck
Thomas, Gene Ziemba, and
Dore Montes taught campers
the history of the military,
systems aeronautics, mis
sion and flight plans, engine
parts, and map navigation.
The students practiced in
flight simulators, completing
various missions throughout
the week.
“The most fun was Mission
Gold where we take out
an enemy air force base,”
said lan Burkes. The mis
sion was 40 minutes and
taught lessons involving
fuel conservation and esti
mated time on route as
well as other strategies.

“It’s hard to get strategy,”
said Aaron Tharpe, who was
able to shoot down an enemy
in five seconds, according to
Ziemba.
At graduation, students
received certificates, made
presentations and demon
strated piloting skills in the
F-15 simulators.
“Today,” said Tharpe, “we
are fighting ‘Top Gun’ style
with guns.”
