Phelps said the canine alerted on the car, a silver Chevy Malibu, for drugs. During a search of the car incident n FORD to arrest, Phelps said, police found “a large amount of ecstasy and marijuana. There were 700-800 pills, with an estimated street value of SB,OOO to $12,000.” “These are the type of things we do to keep drugs out of Perry,” Phelps said. “They may not have been headed for Perry, but they were going through on the inter state.” The driver of the car, Tyisha Ann Floyd, 19, of Tallahassee, Fla., was charged with pos session of the sched- FLOYD ule I-II drug and traffick ing in ecstasy. She was also charged with the tint viola tion and driving with a sus pended license. The passenger, Jakkari Ford, 23, same address, was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and trafficking in ecstasy. He also was charged with giving a false name/ date of birth/address to police and was wanted and will be extradited to Leon County, Fla. Atlanta, Lagrange, Augusta, Central Georgia Tech and now MGTC offer the program. “We’re hoping to capture these students who’re com ing from out of town too,” said Webb of the new pro gram. “There is no school south of Warner Robins that offers barbering as a pro gram.” The school’s cosmetology program is still in demand with a full service salon “lab,” where students are trained on mannequins and also practice on each other and take clients. You gradually work your way into the salon - it’s a great program.” Hammond currently works part time at L.A. Design Studio and plans to get her own booth there after she graduates. Each student needs 1,500 hours to graduate, which are tracked with the completion of time sheets. Fourth quarter students do their classmates’ hair on Mondays, take clients on Tuesdays and Thursdays, test on Wednesdays and have classroom time on Fridays. Second quarter students go in the lab on Fridays to ease their way into the “floor” experience. Evening classes meet Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays this quar ter. The cosmetology school has been able to build up a regular and consistent clien tele over the years.
