Local gymnasts earn medals Special to the HHJ The Houston County YMCA Gym Stars USAG Level 7 and USAG Level 6 had a, according to a release, “remarkable performance” at the 2006 YMCA National Gymnastics Championships held in Hanover, Penn., recently. More than 1,300 qualify ing gymnasts from all over the United States partici pated in this “memorable event,” said Iris Gifford. The Houston County YMCA Gym Stars “proudly brought home several med als,” Gifford said. “Every medal beautifully com prised each gymnast’s tenacity, courage, discipline and striking determination to go beyond their goals and dreams,” she said. Results of the local Houston County YMCA Gym Stars at the USAG Level 6 and 7 competi tion: USAG Level 7 MICHELLE GIFFORD: Captured five medals. Placed second on the vault with 9.550; placed second on the uneven bars with 9.00; placed third on the balance beam with 9.425; and placed second on the floor with 9.500. Per Gifford: Remarkably conquering first place All Around with a score of 37.475. SARAH KUKSHTEL: Captured four medals. Vault 8.650 (17th); placed fourth on the uneven bars with 9.00; placed third on the balance beam with 9.425; placed second on the floor with 9.550; and fourth All Around with a score of 36.625. GEORGIA MILTEER: Captured one medal. Placed eighth on the vault with 9.150; uneven bars 8.150 (17th); balance beam 8.700 (ninth); floor 8.900 (12th). All Around 34.900 (ninth). TRACY NOWAK: Captured two medals. Placed eighth on the vault; uneven bars 8.600 (13th); balance beam 8.325 (17th); placed eighth on the floor with 9.375. All Around 35.450 (10th).
