SATURDAY, JULY 22, 2006 8A FIRE From page 2A the Stallions’ administra tive staff, and she got the call from James Hamp, the Warriors’ general manager, for help getting in touch with the former players. Johnson helped making the phone calls, and several of those Stallions met to get this new team started. “To be honest, I was going to be through with the SFL,” said Johnson. “I had NFL combine tryouts with a lot of teams and I had recom mendations from people who played in the NFL. They came and saw me play. I was trying to go ahead and go to the next level. All of that was going to happen in May.” After his stay in the hospi tal, Johnson decided to shift his focus back to the SFL and help out with International City. “I wanted to laugh and trip out with the guys, show I’m still the same Jarrod, “ he said. “You cuss me out, I’ll cuss you out. You joke on me, I’ll joke on you. I let the guys know I still love them, my brothers, because I know they said they prayed for me and came and saw me when I got out of the hospital.” Johnson absolutely takes his coaching responsibilities seriously, and he goes about it like a veteran. “It’s hard to see these guys and be a coach when I was playing with them a couple of years ago,” said Johnson. “Overall, I’m getting the idea of it. It’s kind of fun. I might look at it in the future and get more experience. A lot of people start out right here. “The SFL’s like a second chance. It was a second chance for me, a blessing for me. I got awards. People came and saw me. If you dedicate yourself it can hap pen. I had more qualifica tions than I needed, but the Lord for reasons felt I wasn’t ready to go to the NFL and sent me on another path.” Johnson hasn’t lost his dedication and work ethic towards football, as shown by his willingness to work in the hot weather to help his team. “I work hard at what I do and try to better myself so somebody can look up to me and say ‘I want to be like him,”’ said Johnson. As for his continuing recovery, he has to return to Augusta every other month and he sees a local doctor. “It’s hard to go back and forth to Augusta, see a doc- "The SFL's like a second chance. It was a second chance for me, a blessing lor me. I got awards. People came and saw me. If you dedicate yourself it can happen. I had more qualifications than I needed, but the Lord for reasons felt I wasn't ready to go to the NFL and sent me on another path." - Johnson WANT NEWS? I had real bad blood clots at the time when it happened. They check up on that. As long as I know somebody’s watching me.” He was also advised not to overdo anything. However, that work ethic won’t allow him to slow down. He said it makes Nicole mad when he tries to run with the Warriors. “If I feel good, I feel good,” said Johnson. “If I don’t, I don’t. If I don’t feel good, I’ll stop. Believe me, I’m a hard person to stop. I guess I’m just going at the Lord’s pace.” GM tS&I 221 $m I ro I n!abs GET UP TO SB,OOO OFF MSRP Oft 0% APR FOR 60 MONTHS ON ANY H2* ' Tmwtctnu With Aoptuued Credit Thru GMAC See Dealer lot Details *299/1110 39 mo smart lease.
