Citing two people familiar with the probe, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Saturday that the U.S. Attorney’s office had received the medical records last week in response to a subpoena issued to the Giants. Bonds’ lawyer, Michael Rains, said there is nothing in the records indicating Bonds used per formance-enhancing drugs. Agassi posts win LOS ANGELES (AP) - Andre Agassi opened his final summer hardcourt ten nis season with a 7-6, 6-0 victory over Xavier Malisse in the opening round of the Countrywide Classic. The 36-year-old Agassi has announced that he will retire following this year’s U.S. Open. Earlier, No. 3 seed Fernando Gonzalez of Chile and No. 8 Dmitry Tursunov of Russia both moved into the second round by winning a pair of tiebreakers. Also, Andy Roddick announced that Jimmy Connors will be his new coach. Wickman prides himself on routine PHILADELPHIA - In the sixth inning Sunday, prior to his Braves debut in the ninth, Bob Wickman made his march from the dugout to the bullpen. Upon arriv al> he went down the row of Atlanta’s NOTEBOOK relievers, shaking R. Travis Haney everyone’s M °Sr hand. At the end, he gave Atlanta’s 67- year-old bull pen coach, Bobby Dews, a hug fitting of a grizzly bear. If you’re at a game this week at Turner Field, watch. He’ll do it again. See, Atlanta’s new closer is a creature of habit. From the beginning of his day to the end, it’s all set. Wickman’s had a routine, he said, since he earned the ninth-inning role in Milwaukee in the late 19905. Former Brewers closer Doug Jones showed him those ropes. “It’s just the way I carry myself,” Wickman said. “I know what I’m doing. When you do something, act like you’ve done it before.” Sure, the pattern has evolved as he’s racked up his 229 career saves, but it was essentially the same Sunday before he worked his first inning as a Brave. Fostering confidence from teammates is one reason for the routine, Wickman said. Say he blows a save one night, he wants team mates to know he’s the same dependable guy the following day. “When you come to the ballpark, you better be coming in looking the same way because you’ve got 24 other guys that are going to notice and you don’t want them wondering what’s going to happen,” Wickman said. “You’ve got to put up a pretty good front about it. E I carry myself with con fidence. I say, ‘“Hey, if I let you down tonight, I’ll pick you up tomorrow.’” His three-up, three-down inning Sunday - although it wasn’t a save situation since the team was up four runs - certainly got the Braves’ attention. Manager Bobby Cox said it was “a great feeling” when Wickman entered. Wickman likewise said it was nice to have the debut behind him. “Coming to a new place, you want to show them what you can do,” he said. “They’re working so hard to get back in the (playoff) race, you want to go out there and contribute your self.” JONESES STILL HURTING: After initial consideration Monday, Andruw Jones’ back wouldn’t let him back in the lineup in the end. Jones, who also sat out Sunday, tested the stiff ness between his shoulder he UNIFORM SHOP 50% Off (Already Discounted Items, Cherokee Unisex Scrubs & Dansko Shoes NOT Included) JULY 26th - AUG. 4th BUY 1 get 1 FREE Shirts Select Shoes just $19.99 Clearance Rack - EVERYTHING SB.OO Hours: M-F Bam-6pm Sat 9am-lpm CLOSED Sunday 1544 Watson Blvd. Warner Robins, GA (478) 328-9977 THE HOUSTON HOME JOURNAL 'I know what I'm doing. When you do something, act Nke you've done it before.' - Braves closer Bob Wickman blades during batting prac tice, and he quickly decided that another day of rest was for the best. “We cannot get it to move right,” Jones said earlier of the painful tightness. The center fielder, again replaced by Ryan Langerhans, will likely be back tonight at home against Florida. Chipper Jones said Monday he likewise expects to be back during the Florida series,’but a little later. The third baseman, still feeling some pain near his left waist, said he’ll take batting practice today and decide whether a Wednesday or Thursday return makes more sense. PRATT PNIEIS PHIIIY LOVE: The city that once infa mously booed Santa Claus likes Todd Pratt, appar ently. Atlanta’s reserve catcher, who filled that duty here from 1992-94 and 2001-05, was in the bullpen some during Sunday night’s game. While his Braves team mates were getting jeered and ripped by the fans, Pratt was welcomed back. “The bullpen guys couldn’t believe how well I was getting treated. Everyone was cheering and chanting Tank,” Pratt said. “They know how I played here and they respected that. It makes you feel good that they appreciated it.” Pratt was in the start ing lineup Monday, spell ing starter Brian McCann. He homered to deep center field in his first at-bat. DAVIES THROWS: Injured starter Kyle Davies threw live batting practice for 10 minutes Monday without pain. Davies, recovering from groin surgery, will now like ly throw a simulated game before beginning his minor league rehab assignment, which could include four or five starts, Bobby Cox said. Contact R.
