Records show that wasn’t the only meeting he missed of the One Georgia Authority board that he is part of by law as lieutenant governor. He’s missed the last four. Gov. Roy Barnes pushed the legislation to create the agency as a way to distribute millions of dollars each year to struggling, rural commu nities. The money comes from part of the state’s share of the multiyear settlement from the major tobacco companies. Sonny Perdue, who has attended all the meetings Taylor missed. “When you have an empty chair over and over again, people notice it,” said Nancy Cobb, One Georgia executive director. During the meetings Taylor has missed, since last October, the agency board has approved $17.6 million in grants for local projects that would generate an esti mated 3,000 jobs. It also launched the AlßGeorgia airport-improvement pro gram and a $lO million ini tiative to enhance Internet connections in small towns. The board’s quarterly meetings are held in differ ent small towns across the state and typically last just an hour or so. The loca tion is usually set a month beforehand.
