Frog
trapped
in the
drain
Walking through the
kitchen late one
night, I heard a low
croaking sound. I looked
around and, since I didn’t
see anything, I dismissed it.
The next night Beverly
heard the same noise. I
asked where she thought it
was coming from. She indi
cated the sink.
We shined a flashlight
beam down the sink drain
to see if we could locate the
critter.
There on the underside of
the drain was a frog clinging
to the drain wall.

The frog
crawled
in there.
He would
have had to enter the plumb
ing from another point, pos
sibly the septic tank.
When he was much small
er, he could have scooted
through an opened door,
jumped through the sink
drain, and lived there until
he was too large to exit. I
proceeded to rescue the frog
by disconnecting the elbow
joint beneath the sink and
forcing him away from the
drain.
He fell onto the space
under the sink and stated
hopping around in the kitch
en. Hippety-hop, Hippety
hop.
I caught the frog before he
made it to the living room
and put him outside the
front door.
I am sure Mr. Froggy
breathed a sigh of relief.
Mother once told me if you
touch a frog and he urinates
on you, warts will form on
your hands. I haven’t devel
oped any warts yet.
Years ago my sons, Bill
and Tim, used to play around
