4C SATURDAY, AUGUST 12, 2006 Thoughts of Christmas Iknoiv it is strange to think about Christmas in the beginning of August with near 100 degree tem peratures, but not for me. Being the parade coordina tor for the annual “Christmas at the Crossroads” parade, I have already started work ing out Jail the details for this year’s parade. A great deal of time and planning goes into this event. But I love it, and Melanie Lewis ~ Colun >ni*t Ho “ s, °" S P""9 S so do our Houston golf carts as mini Christmas floats which lead the parade. Prior to departing for the parade, they have a competition at Houston Springs and award trophies to the best decorated golf carts. Houston Springs has beeh the sponsor of the Perry Christmas parade for the past two years. In 2004, we gave the City of Perry the biggest parade they had ever had including the first appearance by a college band, and in 2005, it was even bigger. The bands love marching down Carroll Street. Playing their iriusic between these buildings gives out an unbe lievable sound that does not escape into the parking lots RICH From plage iC two years of their life getting ready to go out while men spend dn average of seven months, Like tve women would be surprised by that. I’ve riever known a man who took longer than 15 minuted to dress. Editor's note: If you know a fam ily that sets a good model for family values or get interference from traffic. With all the construction on the end of Carroll Street, I may have to come up with an alternative parade route for this year but if so, it will still corhe down Carroll Street. I hope you will help make this year’s parade as big as or bigger than them all. This year’s parade will be held on Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. If you are interested in partici pating, please let me know mlewis@hbustonsprings. com. ■ I was out at the clubhouse earlier this week and ran into one of our residents, Doshia Scarborough. She and her hiisband Gordon are residents of Houston Springs. Many of you may know them as they have lived in Perry for many years. She was sharing information with me about her plans to participate in an upcoming Alzheimer’s fund-raiser, the Georgia National Memory Walk for 2006. The walk takes place on Sept. 22 At the Georgia National fairgrounds & Agricenter. During our con versation, she mentioned to me that for the 2005 Memory Walk she was recog nized as the “Top Individual Fundraiser for Houston County.” That is a wonderful accomplishment and one that she is very proud of. prepare in one hour (this is the best I’m going to get). I called Karen. “They say the national average is two years but 1 calculated for you and nie and it looks more like three plus years. Is that good?” “Hmmm,” she murmured. “Probably not. We might need to scale it back a few minutes a day, just so we can get back in line with the national average.” Later, I reinembered a con versation with a friend who had watched me apply lip larger pieces. On the flat pieces, like the plates, there was an ink stamp after the color was applied. There are many pieces that are not marked at all however and those are the juice tum blers, the demitasse cups, the salt and pepper shakers and the tea cups. (The sau cers are marked, but not the cups). They probably weren’t marked because they had too small a base. He plays the Houston Springs course twice each week. Congratulations, Mr. Moore. gloss several times through the course of an evening. “You’re so vain,” he com mented, chuckling. I stopped with gloss wand in mid-air and looked at him. “And I have noticed that you men tend to prefer those of us women who are vain over those who aren’t.” He nodded wordlessly. I think that says it all. Ronda Rich is the best-sell ing author of What Southern Women know About Flirting and The Town That Came A-Courtin’. friendly knowledgeable folks.
