Cincinnati won in extra innings to stay six games ahead of the Braves. Milwaukee (55-62) scored three in the seventh to tie the game at 4, but the Braves responded, with Jones’ fly ball and McCann's 15th homer of the year. - By Ft. TUESDAY, AUGUST 15, 2006 WR Rec teams finish 1-2 at state By DONMONCRIEF Journal Sports Editor Two Warner Robins Recreation Department teams delivered a one-two punch at both the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association Sixth District Church tournament and then at the state tourna ment. The first tournament took place in Milledgeville July 29. The second was in Augusta Aug. 4-5. The top two finishers from the district tournament - there were eight teams in all - advanced to state. Gilliam gets one of two wishes; WF splits games By MATTHEW BROWN Journal Sports Writer On her birthday Saturday, Kelsey Gilliam pitched 11 innings in two starts for the Westfield Hornets soft ball team at the 2006 sea son-opening tournament at Macon’s Freedom Park. See STATE,page 6B Jim Herrin Memorial winners crowned From staff reports The annual Jim Herrin Memorial Stampede was held Saturday in Centerville (beginning at the Galleria Mall). Overall winners for females in the 5K run were: Brittney Stewart, first, with a time of 20:06, Jamie Maddox, sec ond, with a time of 21:20 and Elizabeth Lambert, third, with a time of 21:30. Top finishers in the male category for the 5K were: Devin Simpson, first, with a time of 18:41, Antonio Johnson, second, with a time of 18:41 and Jacob Parnell, third, with a time of 18:42. In the 10K for women, Jill Wilson finished first with a time of 47:34. Shirley Maddox was second. She came in at 49:48. And. Cindy Joe Smith was third with a time of 50:31. For the males in the same distance, James Welle fin ished first with a time of 36:44. Perry Slaughter was second in 37:33 and Robert Bradham was third at 37:39. In addition, Warner Robins High School also won the Most Spirited Award. The Jim Herrin Memorial See WINNERS, page 6B ICW pick up win via forfeiture From Staff Reports The International City Warriors football game on Saturday against the West Georgia Renegades was can celled due to the Renegades being unable to make it to Macon for the game. Warriors general manager James Hamp said, however, the game was considered a forfeit win, but he hopes to reschedule the game for Sept. 9 if needed. Hamp said for those fans holding tickets for the can celled game that those tick ets will be accepted for the last regular season home game. The Warriors take on the Gadsden (Ala.) Avengers at 7 p.m. Saturday at Lucas Field in Central City Park in Macon. A donation of $5 is suggested and children 8 and under are admitted free. Any International City postseason games will be played at the Jones County South Recreation Complex on Highway 49. Dates will be announced at the conclu sion of the regular season.
