Pickens sinks hole in one at Houston Springs Special to the Journal Lee Pickens was walk ing on air Saturday when he shot a hole in one on Houston Springs’ par-three fifth hole. As the 2006 high school sea son approaches, I’m starting to juggle around a few nick names that might fit some of the players to watch out for in Houston County. Maybe a name like “Payback” or “Mr. Universe” or “The Spot.” This little fixation with nicknames came after seeing a program that rated the top all-time nicknames in sports. No. 1 was easy to guess: Earvin “Magic” Johnson. So many of the names came from the old-school days, like “Dizzy” and “Gas House Gang” and “The Galloping Ghost.” You definitely know “The Bear” was on the list as was “The Babe.” Some of the ones I would pick as the most memorable monikers of all time didn’t make this particular list. I couldn’t see how you couldn’t honor Bob “The General” Knight. Since I’ve met the man, I have to stick up for Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield. Has to be a record. Perhaps the most underrat ed nickname in all of spbrts is one I hold in true regard.
