against Peach.
“It’s something we have
to do,” said Way. “Right now
we don’t have the persoii
nel to try to run the ball 95
percent of the time. But We
have three or four veterans
who can catch the football.
So we need to spread things
out and keep it loose.
“Our running game wafe
shaky at times (Thursday).
It seemed for every two steps
forward we went one step
back. We had too many pen
alties and hobbled snaps, but
we have a long way to go.”
The first quarter ended
with no points on the board.
Antwan Hamilton, a senior
wingback, took care of that
with m 59-yard touchdown
run off right tackle at 9:42 of
the second period.
Josh Carswell, a senior
vying for that starting tail -
back job, had a 21-yard ruii
up the middle in the next
Demon series. But it was A
series of penalty flags later
that put the home team at
2nd-and-23. Peach read a
pass in the flat to stop thti
drive on 3rd-and-5.
The Peach Trojans them
selves are looking to replace
a Division I quarterback and
receiver from their champi
onship squad.
The Trojan offense had
some trouble with the
Demon secondary late in
the second quarter. Safety
Xavier Jackson knocked one
player’s helmet off after a
first-down catch. That same
receiver would catch a ball
over the middle tipped by
Jackson, but Tim Green
caught up with him to force
a fumble. Ryan Reid fell on
the football in the end zone
for a touchback.
Wright had a couple of com
pletions during a two-min
ute drill series, C.J. Jackson
catching an out pattern up
to the 50. The drive ended
on an interception with 26

things have to be done ...
that’s what our hopes are.”
For Rodrigues, a move to
receiver means learning the
routes, making blocks and
shaking defenders who will
try to stop him at the line of
scrimmage.
For Ivory, what stands
out most about him is
size and strength. During
Northside’s Ironman compe

seconds left.
The third quarter was
turned over to the junior
varsity players. On a 67-yard
3rd-and-13 pass play, Peach
County tied the game score
7-7 at the 7:44 mark. That
didn’t sit too well with the
first-string defense on the
sidelines.
It was only with 25 seconds
left in the third at the JV
redeemed itself on a 21-yard
touchdown run by Frankie
Jackson. The inside-reverse
play put the Demons ahead
14-7. Stanley Warren made
a statement for the young
defense with an interception
on Peach’s next snap.
The varsity boys were back
on the field for the fourth,
and it was Roderick Rose
and Josh Palmer sparking
the defensive play with a
third-down sack. The offense
wasted no time as Wright
connected with Richardson
on a post pattern from 39
yards out.
With 4:15, Peach County

down on a 31-yard pass play.
guy,” said Nix. “He’s got a
strong arm. He’s certainly
not the runner that Jacobi
is. We lose some mobility
there. When you add both
of them together, there are
good things there.”
Nix said the health factor
is a key for Ivory. Another
concern for the Eagle offense
as a whole is the need to
retool some positions around
the quarterback.
Nix said only one starting
offensive lineman returns
from last year, plus the coach
lost his backfield tandem
of Byron Hunter and David
Everett.
After Rodrigues, the
receiver group is well stocked
with Nick Bass and Kevin
Cooper.
