Former HS students
receive UGA award

Four former local high
school students and cur
rent University of Georgia
freshmen were among the
236 awarded the college’s
Charter Scholarships by the
Office of Undergraduate
Admissions.
They are: Robert
Harrington of Columbus (a
Northside graduate), Emily
Baggett of Kathleen (a
Houston County High School
graduate), Abby Campbell of
Marshallville (The Westfield
Schools) and Vann Jarrell
of Warner Robins (Warner
Robins High School gradu
ate).

■ Aug., 1956 - Methodist youth end special week
The Methodist Youth Fellowship held its youth activities
week as young persons from all churches participated in
fun, fellowship and spiritial life programs.
Three Emory University ministerial students, Phil Peace,
Rudolph Grantham and Jack Arnold, directed the event.
During the week, the participants performed many tasks
including odd jobs and raising money for building cot
tages at Epworth-by-the Sea and the Methodist Camping
Center.
A total of $l5O was raised by the group.

Out-of-state recipients are

the top five percent of enter
ing first-year students are
named Charter Scholars.
This year’s Charter
Scholars had an average SAT
score that exceeded 1400.
Their average high school
GPA also exceeded 4.0.
Students can renew the
scholarship for up to three
more years if they meet cer
tain academic standards.
