Handshaking, hugs and hollering across a crowded room were the order of the day
as over 1,200 business, community leaders and political candidates converged on
Perry on Thursday. The event was the Georgia Chamber of Commerce’s annual
Congressional luncheon. U.S. Representatives Jack Kingston, R-Savannah, and Jim
Marshall, D-Macon, were the keynote speakers, giving their assessments of issues
affecting Georgia, the nation and the world. Also on the program were J. Paul Holmes,
Jr., Georgia Chamber chairman; Jan Morton of Houston County, who sang the National
Anthem; Dave Cyr of Perry, President of Parrish Construction, who gave the invocation;
Robert F. Hatcher, Georgia Chairman of BB&T, and George M. Israel, President and CEO
of the Georgia Chamber. In the photo, Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin,
right, shakes hands with Ruth O’Dell and greets Mike Mattingly and James Kinchen at
the Congress. All three were representing the Houston County Board of Education.

Natural Oas
If you should have a gas leak in your home or
business, you should immediately notify the City
Utility Department. Their phone number is 929-1903. The
gas you burn in your home or business is colorless and
odorless. If it should leak, it would present a hazard.
Because gas is normally odorless, a special odor is
introduced into the gas before it is distributed by the
City. If you have ever smelled this odor, you will
remember what it smells like. It is similar to the odor of
rotten eggs, but not as nauseating. Just remember that
natural gas is safe unless, for one reason or another, it
is leaking into a closed-in area; then it is very
dangerous.
The City puts enough odorant into its gas to
assure that you will smell the gas long before it
becomes dangerous. When you smell it, however, do j
not waste time. Report it immediately to the City Hall. |
