Sheila Jones, execu tive director of the Perry Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and Rick Davis, sales and marketing representa tive for the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agricenter, were in Salem, Oregon, over the Independence Day week end to attend the annual rally for the WBCCI. The WBCCI is a club for owners of Airstream travel trailers. Some 1,500 Airstreams will converge on Perry late June/early July 2007 for their weeklong rally; some staying as long as a month or more. The WBCCI rallies are always held over the Independence Day weekend to coincide with the birth day of Byam, the founder of Airstream, who was born on the Fourth of July, it was explained in a release. This will mark the first time ever, however, the WBCCI will hold its international rally in the area known as Region 3 to WBCCI members. Reeves honored at award ceremony Special to the Journal William Reeves of Warner Robins was recently hon ored in an awards cer emony at First Assembly for achieving the high est accomplishment of National Royal Ranger rec ognition, the Gold Medal of Achievement. Reeves received the medal from Georgia District Royal Ranger Commander, Derek Goodwin, at a Council of Achievement ceremony attended by members of the Warner Robins First Assembly congregation. The Council of Achievement ceremony included the reading of congratulatory letters to him from President George Bush, Gov. Sonny Purdue, U.S. Congressman Jim Marshall and mayors of both Warner Robins and Centerville. Additionally, Reeves was presented an American flag flown by an Air Force E-8 Joint Stars aircraft during a combat mission of Operation Iraqi Freedom in honor of his Gold Medal status. Reeves earned the Royal Ranger Gold Medal of Achievement by first becoming a bronze and sil ver medal award recipient. To accomplish that, he com pleted 16 skill merits, 48 different knowledge based Bible merit achievements, wrote an essay demonstrat ing an understanding of the goals of Royal Ranger min istries and by completing a ministry outreach service project. Reeves achieved Royal Ranger of the Year commen dation at First Assembly for 2004, 2005 and 2006. He is a ninth grader at the Westfield Schools and is the son of Wayne and Patsy Reeves of Warner Robins. The Gold Medal of Achievement was estab lished nationally as an award of highest honor for Royal Rangers in 1963. SATURDAY, AUGUST 26, 2006 ♦ Since its inception, less than 6,000 young men in the United States have qualified for this honor. Reeves is the 90th young mail in the state of Georgia to feceive the Gold Medal of Achievement during its 43 year history.
