After the final of the disputed calls, he added, the team was “fired up” and came out “hitting and put down the Lady Warriors once and for all.” HoCi 2 (games!, Osborne 0 The third match of the day versus Osborne was probably the most lopsided and difficult - a little too easy - for the Lady Bears. So, Jones said, they focused on fundamentals, proper serve techniques, spot serving or picking a target and hitting it and on defense - making each hit better. The end was Houston County winning 25-6 and 25-8. “This was a very difficult match to focus even for me,” said Jones. “That being said, we ended up taking care of fundamentals and played well.” HtCe 2 (gums), Saudi Cobb 0 The fourth match was against South Cobb High School. The trainer worked on her (and) we set her out and worked a differ ent rotation.” Leah Justin took her place in the rotation and played well, Jone said. He added, however, the Lady Bears showed “little signs of the long day” even though they won that contest 25-10. He said the Lady Bears were “cruising” to another match win - leading 11-6 in the second game - when it was discovered they had served out of rotation. The score was corrected to 8-7 but that mattered little as Houston County still won 25-19 in the end. Chattahoochee 2 (games), HeCel The final match was the most difficult of the day, said Jones. Both teams entered that undefeated on the day and the season. Chattahoochee, however, had a bit of an advantage, Jones said, considering they had won earlier and had had about five hours off to rest. The Lady Bears, on the other hand, were work ing on their third straight match. THE HOUSTON DAILY JOURNAL Still, Jones said he felt conditioning would pay off. They even had the inspi ration of Doebereiner, who Jones said laced up her shoes and “insisted” on playing. At first none of the afore mentioned appeared to mat ter. The Lady Cougars won the first match 25-16. The Lady Bears rallied in the second, however - commit ting no service errors, Jones said - and won 25-17. Fatigue finally set in in the third game, however. That, coupled with a couple of “mental” mistakes turned into a 25-11 Chattahoochee win. Leading the Lady Bears, among others, was Morgan Hollars, who had a total of 73 assists throughout all five matches. Also, Catherine Goodman had six blocks and 13 kills. Doebereiner had three blocks and 13 kills. Leah Justin and Nicole Williams each added three kills and one block. Devon Preston added five kills and three assists. The attack was also start ed by several key digs, Jones said by defensive special ists Dhwani Patel, who had seven assists and 16 digs, Sam Moncada, who had 24 digs and five assists and Brittany Pierce, who had 12 digs and nine assists.
