Perry High School drama students Deanne Lambert, Chelsey Scvantz and Shayna Stokes check out a headstone in
Evergreen Cemetery in Perry as part of their research for “A Ramble Through Old Perry."
By KRISTY WARREN
Journal Staff Writer
The advanced drama class
at Perry High School has
something to be excited
about. They are escap
ing from the classroom
and the stage to per
form “A Ramble Through
Old Perry” at Evergreen
Cemetery.
With the help of Ellie Loudermilk,
history buff and technology coordi
nator for PHS, drama instructor Joe
Sendek (also a history buff) took his
class to the cemetery Friday to look
at graves, grave symbols and any
family members the students may
have there.
The end result will be a grave
yard performance with the students
dressing the period and allowing
the audience to “meet” the people
who are buried at Evergreen
Cemetery and to see what their
roles once were in the Perry com
munity.
Loudermilk envisioned a tour of
the cemetery and town together,
tying the deceased with the houses
and businesses of downtown. She
started accumulating data with that
in mind two years ago and has
written a book on the history of old
Perry with what she has learned.
The purpose of the project is “to
honor those who built the town
