The school was award ed the Effective Program Award for gains made over the past three years in clos ing the achievement gaps for economically disadvantaged students, minorities and students with disabilities. In addition, Principal Paige Reaves won the Georgia 2006 Mike Campbell Exemplary Leadership Award for District H. Flint Energies awards Russell Elementary grant Special to the Journal Russell Elementary School has been awarded a $2,310.00 grant by the Flint Energies Foundation. The grant, according to a release, will be used to pur chase uniforms and warm up suits for its first time dance team. The dance team will begin performing this fall. In 2001, Flint Energies adopted this uniquely simple and rewarding way to enable members to raise money for local charities and service organizations - Operation Round Up®. The electric cooperative’s Stocker serving as state mathematics organization leader Special to the Journal Bonnie Stocker, coordi nator of mathematics for grades 6-12 for Houston County schools, is serving as president of the Georgia Association of Advanced Placement Mathematics Teachers. The organization has 50 active members and is open to all AP Mathematics teachers and interested non- AP teachers. GA2PMT, according to a release, was formed to encourage the professional development of AP math teachers. Stocker joined the organization soon after it was formed in 1995. “It is an honor to be able to lead this organization,” Stocker said. “To meet with all the AP math teachers at our fall conference is almost breath taking. When I think about all the brilliant minds that are a part of this organiza tion, it is a humbling experi- V REAVES room instruction to accom modate the varying needs of the students served,” said Reaves. “Our efforts have focused on effective practices to nar row the achievement gap for members contribute nearly $300,000 annually to the Flint Energies Foundation, which supports worthy causes in the 16 counties it serves. Operation Roundup® is a way for members to add voluntarily to those funds in their own unique way. Participating members allow Flint Energies to round-up their bill to the nearest dol lar. For example, if a bill is $92.71, a member will pay $93, with all 29 cents going directly to the Flint Energies Foundation. Ed in Secondary Education from Georgia College and also has gifted certification. She received her BA in our students with disabili ties and low socioeconomic students. “We strive daily for every child to experience success! I am ecstatic that this award recognizes the hard work, long hours and dedication of our faculty and students.” Reaves won the leader ship award. for District H, which consists of 15 mid dle Georgia school systems.
