Powell of Robins, opera tions superintendent for Robins Air Force Base’s 78th Security Forces Squadron, received a Bronze Star Medal in Iraq July 2 for, according to a release from Robins AFB, “exceptionally meritorious service during his recent six-month deploy ment.” According to the release, Powell “demonstrated out if m 'MmMMiMMm, % , # %& »M%& &M l^mmammimsmm jdflkK 8 lAft.fcf*} ftj|#' ? MDA telethon i i .' -‘“' r -■■ JB JS ' jjp m < s} & standing professional skill, knowledge, and leadership in organizing forces to stand up the first ever United States Air Force unit to con duct force protection and law and order operations at the forward operating base he was deployed to.” In conjunction with that, Powell was singled out for “skillfully” overseeing suc cessful responses to hun dreds of incidents. According to the release, Powell’s security plans ensured 24-hour capability to “delay, deny and destroy insurgents attempting to attack the base.” The Bronze Star Medal is presented for heroic or meritorious achievement of service, not involving aerial flight, in connection with operations against opposing armed forces. Authorized Feb. 4, 1944, the Bronze Star is presented to mem bers of all branches of mili tary service.
